This was nice large place in the country. Relaxing to sit on the deck and in the whirlpool in the evening and watch horses grazing close by. I am a city girl but felt so safe here. The owner thought of anything and everything a person might need. She even had first aid items. There were womans touches all through the house. The WIFI was so strong. That is one thing that the owner did not mention on the web sight.
This vacation rental was perfect for our vacation to Richland Oregon in the Hells Canyon recreation area. We were right in the middle of everything. We have been coming to Richland for over 30 years from the Bay Area/Tahoe Area. Richland is a piece of Heave on Earth. Its one of those places you come back to over and over and it never gets old. There's so much to do in the area and this place is perfect for a "home base". We brought our four wheelers and had direct access to all the trails around the area. We do a 60 mile loop from Richland over Sparta to Eagle creek then back down eagle creek through New Bridge. Its our favorite trip on the four wheels and is a day of fun! You can hike, bike, horse back ride, four wheel ride, fish, hunt, boat, float the rivers, kayak etc. You name it and you can do it in the Eagle Valley!
The house is on top of a hill over looking the entire valley. There is a very large deck with little decks around the whole property to take in all the different views. Plus a great fire place area with a grass area around it for sitting. The views are of the different Mountains, Valley, Rivers. Beautiful. Doesn't get much better than that except it does... there is a big hot tub on the deck that sees everything. We had it as a pool in the day and kept it a little warmer at night. it was perfect for the summer temperatures. It also had a huge Umbrella that covered the entire hot tub that was perfect to get rid of the hot mid day sun in the summer which can be over 100, we were lucky it wasn't that hot! Just what you need after a day of recreation.
The house which is an older styled house and probably 30 years old, has been recently upgraded with new paint and furnishings/decor. We were very impressed how they made an older house look new again. Everything was very clean and neat when we arrived. We felt welcomed and it showed with all the little details. Everything we needed was at the house and we didn't have to buy anything except food/drinks. We were very thankful for that because you never know what is offered. They have all the supplies ready if you need them. Including recreations things like folding chairs, cooler's, BBQ's etc. We could use a gas grill or had charcoal which was great. The beds were very comfortable and had new blankets and pillows! The house had air conditioners at each end of the house which really cooled down the entire house in an half hr or so. Perfect for the hot days and perfect for those who like air conditioning to sleep with etc. The nights are cold enough that even in the summer you don't need the air conditioners.
There weren't any problems that I can think of other than I wish there was some beach towels. The towels were too nice and I didn't want to use them outside like on the river/lake. They were brand new! So luckily I had a couple with us but it would be nice if there were some at the rental. Also be prepared to "air dry" your laundry outside which I was actually happy to do. Something different hanging it on the line. It was very peaceful drying my laundry the "old fashioned way" Reminded me of my childhood when I did that at summer camp! LOL Im just glad they had a washer because I didn't want to do that the old fashioned way ever again. Also there is no Wi Fi or Interent which was ok since we had full service with our phone plus you can get Wi Fi anywhere in town/restuarants.
Anyway... Other than those 3 things we had everything we needed and were perfectly happy for the entire week! We were so happy we left a big tip and were very happy to do so. For the price you cant beat what you get with the rental. It really is a great deal for a great place.
Make sure to go to both restaurants and bar in town which have great home cooking and refreshments! Our favorite thing to do is late breakfast in town after a couple days of fun/partying. Always happy with the food and service at the Hitching Post Grocery Store. We are always happy to see the locals and say hi and hear how everyone is doing and what the fisherman are catching! You have to ask where the big ones have been biting in the area and get your fishing lliscence. We caught bass, trout, crappie, catfish, carp and others now that there are invasive fish. I caught a bass over a foot long this last trip. It was huge! Not to mention the 14 in trout at the Oxbow Dam where the river mets, huge trout biting almost every five minutes. Best fish spot by far in the area but dont tell the locals I told you :) about 45 min from the house.
We would go back to this rental over and over again. We were very happy that it was avail for this trip and hope it is avail for many trips to come. The best part about it is Location, Location, Location and the family like service! We felt like were were staying with family and didn't feel like we couldn't ask for anything. It was such a great trip!
Thank you Gary and JoAnn for letting us stay at your family vacation spot. You had a great vision and its awesome your sharing it with everyone else.
