It was tricky locating parking so park in the hospital parking structure and the Tram entrance is just outside of the hospital main floor doors. It was a sunny day (how unusual in Portland) so we were able to see across the river and to the DT area.

As many have said before me. Can't beat the view for $5. I even got a free sticker when I got to the top from the operator. Heads up the machine only takes cards no cash. I ended up buying a ride up for a couple of guys from Hong Kong that only had cash with them. I was in town for work and read this was a must visit. It was spot on!

If you are a tourist, the costs is $4.70 for the ride up, and is free for the ride down. I am not sure why it's done this way, which is very odd, but whatever. I suppose if you can make it to the hospital and then only want to take it the one way (down), save yourself a five spot.

The carriage carries a fair number of people in a single car. While they do have a couple of seats, you can expect to stand for the duration of the trip which cannot be more than a couple of minutes to the top/bottom. Whether going up or coming down you have some awesome views of the valley and skyline. I recommend you take this in the dawn or dusk if possible.

We did the 4T hike and took the tram down from OHSU. Effie the queues with clean attended service. Be sure to be on. The left side going down for a view of the city line.

There is a fee to go up - but not to go down.
