China Wok occupies a small slot in the Marion Center Plaza between a much larger Mexican restaurant and a bowling alley, so it is easy to overlook. I went this weekend because most fast food is not gluten free and I wanted to get take out rather than trash the kitchen. First impressions are not overwhelming- there are about ten pictures of food selections in the window, but no prices. One could easily assume those are your only choices, when in fact the full menu has 147 items, plus 30 lunch specials. The entry is tiny, dark, and narrow and I was the only customer in the store. There is a seating area on either side of the entryway. Some of the tables had not been cleared off since lunch, and lights were turned off on one side. Floor tiles were cracked, ceiling tiles were taped up and the wall was dirty. Did not inspire me with a great deal of confidence as I perused the menu. Sign on bulletin board promised excellent food at surprising prices. I was surprised, all right, dropping $35 to feed three. I know most people won't blink at that but it is a lot for me. We would have saved $16 if we had ordered the same items at lunch. In the ten minutes it took to prepare our order, six people picked up orders and ten called in, so apparently the China wok has its fans. While waiting, I used the restroom. It has grab bars and is accessible but there was so much stuff stacked up in the hallway it would not have been possible to get a wheelchair in. Sink was dirty, no soap dispenser, just a bottle of hand sanitizer with a pump handle. Was getting really nervous at this point. Food was finally ready. Got it home and it was good. Portions generous, came with fortune cookies, and everyone was happy. I was relieved but don't know if I'll be back unless the place is cleaner. If you go, get your order to go. Delivery is available in a limited area for an extra charge of 3.75 and a minimum order of $15. They take credit cards but do not accept checks. Again, food is good but don't eat it there.
