We hadn't been to Perkin's Marion in many years mainly because it is always so busy! But we had received a nice coupon and had a doctor appointment 09-18-2019, so decided it was a good day to have a nice sit-down meal out together. We went between what would be considered lunch or supper times- so there wasn't the problem of waiting for a table at all. We were so glad we went to Perkin's today!
We were greeted by the young lady as our hostess who seated us and also served as the cashier later. She was very polite and professional. Then our server was Kyle who took excellent care of our table meeting our every need, making us feel welcome.
The food came piping hot and was in ample quantity on both our plates. My husband ordered one of the breakfast meals that covered (piled high) the huge square heavy plate. He said it was delicious. I ordered the steak and peppers which arrived on a hot black iron oblong skillet on a wooden block. The steak/peppers/onions/potatoes/mushrooms were grilled and smothered in beef gravy. The dish was also piled high on that skillet and was delicious! The prices were comparable to any Bob Evans Restaurant pricing.
They have a bakery feature to the restaurant too with 2 large lighted showcases featuring a variety of pies, extra large muffins, and cookie desserts- which can be purchases individually or larger orders for taking home too. We were full from our meal with no room to try a dessert, but they all looked delicious. I can see patrons probably coming just for the desserts too.
They had a nice variety of choices on the menu from their appetitizers thru breakfast items to lunch and supper meals or sandwiches, soups, and salads. The restaurant was clean and up-to-date decor. The outside was well-maintained as well. I am a local person. But it's not too far if you are traveling on Route 23, to get off on the Route 95 exit to visit Perkins either. It is just a couple of blocks down from The Ohio State University Campus and the Marion Technical Campus or just one road over from the Marion Harding High School also. There's historical things to visit in the area also such as President Harding's Home just a bit further down the road and a couple of roads over is the Harding Memorial. The Popcorn Museum is very interesting near downtown also just a little further from the Harding Home. Also there's the famous downtown Palace Theater that offers a variety of plays, concerts, and movies in a beautiful restored theater. Marion has a nice history that you could spend a couple of days researching really, along with neighboring Counties as well. This Perkin's Restaurant is near many stores, other businesses, and hotels. So whether you are a local OR a new visitor to the area, this is a good choice to stop for a nice sit-down meal or just a dessert and coffee! Good choice and good service for us today! Kyle the server is a keeper there.
