We met friends for Sunday lunch although none of us had the roast however, it did look really good.
We hadn’t seen the Bell this busy in ages!!!
Service was good even though they were very busy.
The starter portions of Chicken Goujons and White Bait were a good size and tasty. The special Taco was described as ‘average’.
The pies were great and it wasn’t a problem asking for extra gravy. The portions of chips and veg were large. The deep-dish quiche was very tasty.
Unfortunately we didn’t have room for any puddings.

We were looking forward to visiting The Bell Inn after driving past on several occasions and seeing the sign about the Good Pub Guide. As you arrive the garden is very nice and the inside of the pub is fantastic but the food and especially the service don’t support it unfortunately. We arrived at 5.45pm on a Friday evening to be told very abruptly that they don’t open until 6pm. We thought this may have been because the lady was busy laying out he menus in the garden but her attitude was shocking throughout. We had two young children one of which asked her (politely) a couple of questions but he was completely ignored. It’s a real shame as service is such a crucial part of a dining experience and The Bell is really being let down in that capacity.

Once the food arrived it was ok but nothing more than average. Given the GBG recommendation and prices higher than similar pub/restaurants in the area we left really disappointed.

My wife and I were there on a Friday lunchtime. By the look of all the reserved tables, it was lucky we were fairly early and we chose to sit inside. The service was fast and efficient; our drinks delivered promptly and our order taken.

Even though they make it clear that they do not serve 'fast' food, we didn't have long to wait for our starters. My wife had an avocado salad with crispy bacon bits and I had deep fried brie. Both were well presented and very enjoyable.

For the main course, DW had smoked salmon and crayfish tails with a mixed salad, and I had a lamb curry with rice. Again, both meals were as good to eat as they were to look at; the only problem being that there was too much for us to eat; I hope the chef didn't mind that we failed to eat it all.

£50 for lunch, even with drinks, is by no means a cheap meal, but we felt that it was excellent value for the money.

After all the good comments; a criticism. My wife sometimes needs to use a wheelchair; fortunately, she was having a good day today so she was able to walk in. Had she been using the chair we would have had to go elsewhere as there is a substantial step down into the dining room. I would not have thought that it would be a huge problem to create a ramp.

You do need to book well ahead for this popular gastro-pub that continues to win top awards, and so it should for the consistency of the quality of food and service with generous portions and seasonal ingredients. Food is served all day at weekends that fits into everybody's weekend routines.
