We have just returned from a three day break at the Priory Bay hotel. If you are looking for relaxation in a wonderful location this is for you. We stayed in room 12 one of the principal rooms available at the Priory. The room was comfortable, clean and very quite. But it's best feature was the stunning views over the grounds to the sea. The staff go the extra mile to ensure that your stay is a memorable occasion. The hotels private beach is the jewel in the crown and would rival any beach in the world. The only minor negative was that the golf course was out of action. But this did not retract from our enjoyable stay. Hopefully will return soon. Thanks to all the wonderful staff again.

Stayed for three nights with my cousin in an empty/more or less hotel with very few staff.
First thing we noticed were what staff were there were teenagers which was not good enough for such a hotel although I would say that the young man on the desk was very friendly and a credit to the hotel as well as the night security man who was a credit also.
The hotel is extremely over priced and if I had known it was going into receivership I would not have stayed. The hotel had no restaurant facilities other than an outside company on call. We were lucky as we had a fairly ok room with great views but some rooms were absolutely terrible. One red room looked like a death room and would not advise anyone to stay in that room. The hotel stands in many many acres of land and if millions were spent on it and many attractions added such as a spa, proper swimming poo, restaurant, cocktail bars, golf course, clay pigeon, archery, horse riding and many more things as well as a complete re vamp.
The prices must be reduced and packages of B and B and evening meal to attract people.
Also lighting all along the long drive in.
Maybe also private travel could be arranged by the hotel between Portsmouth and the hotel to make it a special package.

Money and lots of it must be spent on this hotel.

It's not fair to charge the rates they are at the moment for people to stay in an empty, non restaurant the list goes on hotel.

Room Tip: Do not stay until hotel sorted out.

This is 4th visit over the years and it still remains a great hotel in a fabulous location. The beach, pool and tennis courts are super, especially as we got sun throughout. However, the hotel is being neglected. Everything is all very tired and the staffing is cut far to lean, the waiter is the receptionist, bar man and general manager. The bedding and towels need an upgrade.

The restaurant is now separate to the hotel which makes breakfast on a first come first served basis, 7 croissants for all residents, enough muesli for 3 people max and a restaurant manager more interested in her lap top than serving or even saying good morning.

If the hotel was in better shape then the price of the rooms would be absolutely fine because of the location and beach, but it needs a lot of investment to make it the jewel it could be.

We stayed at the hotel last week - depressing and disappointing.

I've just read another review and the response from the management team - management let me set you right on a number of points and ask that you take feedback on-board.

I wholly concur with the reviewer of the "fallen angel" review:

We booked the hotel earlier on this year while it was under administration - no one told us - I don't think

The website advertised 5 stars and 2 restaurants (just checked it - it still does) - this information needs to be urgently updated to reflect the truth!

The fine dining restaurant is closed -
not only during our 3 day stay it was clear that no staff was clearing up and that cups and plates from a private event that had been hosted there had not been removed and there was mould from the leftovers - disgusting!

The casual restaurant is being outsourced and under the circumstances is doing the best it can - however it was disappointing.

Also while we were there a massive party took place so the restaurant wasn't open for lunchtime and the lawns were overtaken by massive bouncy castles and tons of screaming children ... something I don't think was respectfully communicated to guests staying and also which wouldn't have happened if restaurant and hotel were being run, successfully as one business.

Additionally our hotel room housekeeping did not replace towels or did little if any cleaning for the 3 days we were there even
when we asked them to provide us with a new bath gel on our second evening there - they ignored us twice at which point we gave up and went to buy some at the closest store in seaview.

The place is falling apart, understaffed, overpriced and in desperate need of refurbishment and new management.

Planning permission was sought in 2014 and if there are new owners on the horizon I would greatly rife them of looking into a similar investment in this overtired and simply sub standard hotel.

I have stayed at the Priory Bay frequently over the years.

I booked not knowing it had gone into receivership and was not told on booking that it had.

The hotel is being run on a shoestring while still asking the rates it used to command. The restaurant is closed and there is a mediocre bistro serving overcooked burgers. Staff are non-existent or inexperienced students, the hotel is unkempt and, not surprisingly, it is almost empty.

It is sad but also not right that people are not being told and it is being allowed to trade on its past reputation.

Stay clear until it is sold.

We are sorry that you did not feel you had value for money, but assuming that it is correct you stayed in August we would like to correct a couple of points in your review.

1. The restaurant has been and is open throughout August.

2. The hotel went into administration (not receivership) last July and is now out of administration.

We are very excited about the new young restaurant team which is offering a contemporary relaxed menu based on local ingredients. In reopening the hotel and restaurant we recognise that some of the staff are relatively young, but we hope guests will recognise their enthusiasm and commitment to please.
