The Tablelands is very dry at the moment and Hasties Swamp is a little oasis in among this dryness.

We saw lots of ducks a Sarus Crane, pelicans, stilts, a magpie lark building her nest, A beautiful flock of spoonbills sifting the banks and lots more.

When in Atherton, if you like birds go and check out Hasties Swamp, the two story bird hide makes it easy to 'twitch'

Big range of different birdlife, given how dry it was. The bird hide was a beauty, with double levels and identification notes for visitors

Sunrise or sunset is the best time to visit as the birds flock in around those times. Many varieties of birds to see if quiet.

Located just off the Atherton-Herberton road, Hasties Swamp provides a pleasant waterside location with a couple of bird viewing locations.

Plenty of water birds about when we visited, mainly ducks.

Worth the short detour if in the area: allow 45 minutes or so.

It was cool and wet so we decided to Atlas the birds at Hasties. We ran into a local photographer who was capturing wonderful shots of the egrets. We saw over 90 pink eared ducks, hardheads, plumed whistling, freckled ducks as well as magpie geese, grebes and many other water birds. In the past I have also seen many Brolgas.
