5 The Banks was absolutely perfect. It is so beautifully furnished, with everything you need for a short or long stay. The kitchen is spacious, the main bedroom is very large and spacious with plenty of storage space. It's location to Windermere is ideal, without being right on the doorstep. Staveley was such a quiet village. During our stay we walked the short distance to the local pub 'The Eagle and Child' which also did fantastic meals and had a great atmosphere.
We loved 5 The Banks and would definitely stay again if we are lucky enough to visit the beautiful Lakes District again.
Perfection!

“What a special place to stay for Christmas!”
Reviewed 30 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

This year me & my husband decided to go away for Christmas & we couldnt have asked for a better place to stay. We arrived Christmas eve & stayed for three nights, after a long journey from Peterborough we arrived to a nice warm cottage. After settling in & a much needed cup of tea we went off to The Eagle & Child pub (a 5-10min stroll) for a lovely meal & a few drinks.Very friendly local, absolutely pack with people & festive cheer!
The cottage has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard with all mod cons for all your needs. There is two bedrooms one with a double bed & the other with a kingsize plus plenty of draw space & a wardrobe. We slept in the kingsize bed & it was so comfy! The bathroom had a shower over the bath & there was fluffy towels provided, also very nicely decorated. The lounge had two settee's & there was a real flame gas fire if you wanted a bit more heat. The lounge was decorated for Christmas, very minimal but was very tastefully done. There was Sky TV with Sky movies which was a nice touch, also Wi-Fi was available!
The kitchen diner had everything you needed, even down to a dishwasher which we didn't use as my husband is my dishwasher!! There was a washer/dryer & microwave in the little room on back of the kitchen, this was the prefered entrance to the property so you could leave your shoes as the front door opened straight into the lounge.
We went out to eat Christmas lunch in Bowness on Windermere & walked by the lake, we also went into Kendal & Ambleside on Boxing day. All these towns are a short drive from Staveley, but if you prefer you can hop on a train to these places as the station is only a stones throw from the cottage!
All in all we had a wonderful time for our first Christmas away! Thank you to the owner for creating such a lovely place to stay, we would definitely recommend staying here & we even might go back next Christmas with our friends!

“perfect cottage and location for a relaxing holiday”

Stayed for three nights in this well equipped and tastefully decorated cottage. Would happily stay again. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding and towels were all of high quality. We used the Wi Fi and had no problems. We do not drive so used public transport which was very reliable. Staying in Staveley was lovely. The area is perfect for relaxing and getting away from the busy tourist areas but is close enough to jump on a train/bus to get where you want to go. We visted Wilfs cafe for breakfast which was very good and reasonably priced and was able to pick some lovely bread from an artisan bakery a few shops down. There is a cash machine in post office which is free to use. Some beautiful walks in the local area. The Eagle and Child Inn has a picnic bench area next to the river which is great for relaxing with a drink.

“Great little cottage”

We had an enjoyable 3 night stay in this cosy well equiped cottage. It was ideal for 3 adults but I think 4 adults could struggle as the rear bedroom is rather small; perhaps it should be advertised as a large single rather than a small double? No problem with the trains running behind the property and they didn't keep me awake! We enjoyed sitting out in the shared garden area at the back and the neighbours are very friendly.

Staveley is a small pretty village with everything you might need within walking distance. We had a great meal in the Eagle and Child although the pub is rather rustic inside!

“Great country retreat!”

After being a little cautious of the location, following previous reviews, as soon as we drove through Staveley we quickly realised there was no need.

The village has a lovely feel, with a park perfect for our 5 year old son, a Spar shop and two pubs a short walk away from the property, perfect for myself and my husband! You are only 10 minutes (depending on traffic) away from both Kendal and Windermere. We actually preferred this as were only a short drive away from our activities throughout the day and were able to drop the car off and have a pleasant stroll to the Eagle and Child pub on an evening for a bite to eat and/ or a drink, away from the hustle and bustle of Kendal and Windermere.

The property itself is lovely, we felt at home straight away. It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, having all the facilities you could need! It was very comfortable and definitely home from home. Thanks also to Eileen who was very helpful in the run up to our stay.

All in all we had a lovely break, and wouldn't stay anywhere else in the future. We are already looking forward to our stay at 5 The Banks next year. Perfect country break.
