Stayed for five nights and after reading previous reviews we were worried about a few things but we were very pleasantly surprised.

The setting as many have mentioned is fantastic and you are just metres away from the lake with great views.

In our experience the staff were an absolute credit to the hotel - we found the waiters very polite and helpful. Special mention to the lady on the early shift on main reception who was always smiling and happy to assist you.

We were very nervous about the food as it was a holiday break for my parents but they loved it. The a la carte menu was impressive - it included a variety of decent dishes including a chateaubriand. The grazing menu was also generous - you could pretty much have as much as you liked and the fish and meat was good.

Breakfast is also a buffet but comes with freshly squeezed orange juice and really good pastries as well as the traditional hot options.

On our last day there was no water from 10am until 5pm due to a burst pipe up the road. Not the hotel's fault at all and they did their best to keep everyone calm and updated of the situation.

All in all an enjoyable stay and we would definitely return.

I’m sure the owners know it. I’m sure the staff know it. This place needs upgrading badly. I would gladly donate the cash if I had it! The location is the selling point. It’s lovely to look out in the morning across the steamy lake. And then a short walk to catch your lake cruise to Bowness. But if they charge £450 a ngt for a room I expect to get something for that. All the furniture was old, shower over bath kind of affair. Our suite was dusty. Perhaps no one entered it since before Covid?. The food wasn’t half bad. I want to mention the kids play room which occupied our son sufficiently. No time spent on ipad for a change! All in all we would come back but only once the place is done up.

The location and views from the hotel are beautiful but unfortunately that's as far as it goes. we booked into one of the expensive suites 'The windermere suite with hot tub' for one night and paid just under £600 . The room was average, with a creaky 'floating bed which had no mini-fridge, poor wi-fi connection and no thermostat to control room temp. We had to request for mini-fridge and other basic items (e.g. shower gel, iron, tissue). We also requested a late checkout and were willing to pay the extra amount but it was refused.
The breakfast was shocking, it was buffet style with limited options. Staff just stood around and didnt interact to ask if we needed anything or if there were other options. Very disappointed.
We have stayed in other luxury hotels in the lake district over the years and they all provided a unique experience with quality of service - sadly lacking at Lakeside. Very disappointed wont be recommending this hotel to family and friends and wont be returning again!

Great location. Fabulous staff (especially the young ones!) How best to describe this hotel? Nearly very good. Hesitate to be too critical in post-Covid period, however for the rate charged really should be just a little better. Read recent other comments about the food, they are pretty accurate. Notice that the hotel tried to justify the buffet with a previous reviewer -not a good look as it can't be justified without explanation to residents who've booked dinner in advance. Very limited buffet, 2 times a week (not advised of that in advance). The meats on offer were very nice & well cooked but one veg? Read the hotel's justification in previous response where they lay out (accurately) what's on offer & imagine your main course on your plate - all brown & beige - no greens or variety of veg on offer........ It would be better if the hotel was honest & up front - media reports currently highlighting that hospitality sector struggling to retain/recruit staff - is this why the buffet is on offer? Fine - just tell your customers the reason for this & people will be understanding. Want to re-emphasise the positive - fantastic location, rooms fine, really lovely staff working hard in difficult circumstances - just be honest upfront with your customers, don't pretend all is okay and majority like us, will completely understand!

Room tip: Lake view a must!

We had high hopes for our first return visit to one of our top 3 hotels in the UK and our first real break since the beginning of "lockdown". In some ways they were realised. The unbeatable location (obviously) hadn't changed. Nor had the excellent bedooms, the spa and, above all, the superb staff. And, from our point of view, the fact they all wore masks when in contact with guests was a big plus point.

Sad to say in two aspects though things were well bellow expectations.

Firstly, all the ground floor public rooms were given over to dining, presumably in the cause of social distancing, meaning there was nowhere to relax other than in your room or by sitting at a dining table.

Secondly, presumably through a shortage of qualified staff in the kitchen, the once excellent choices from Table D'Hote and an A La Carte menus are reduced to a limited choice and unchanging menu (offered on 5 days a week - so a stay of a few days will often mean a repeated selection). This is only varied by its replacement on Tuesday and Friday (?Chef's Days off?) with a "Grazing "Buffet". In other words 3 courses, serve yourself (except soup and meat carving), limited choice affair, in which department a Toby Carvery probably scores higher marks. Though the roast meats were excellent the only gravy to be had was that stolen from the lamb casserole. And the vegetable selection was poor to say the least.

Sorry Lakeside. But good food with a wide choice is one of the main pleasures of an extended hotel stay. What you offer now is OK for a couple of nights, but for a longer stay....?????? Maybe we'll give it one more go in the hope that you get back to your previous high standard.
