We had dinner at the Tequila restaurant on November 1, 2017. We arrived on time for our 7:30 reservations, and we were escorted to our table. Usually, our dining experience is formed by ambiance, food quality and service.

The Tequila Restaurant is lovely. Its Mexican decorations are festive, the lighting is nice and the tableware is appropriately Mexican. Fancy terra-cotta type glazed plates with brightly colored Mexican patterns in blue and orange, and that heavy bubbly clear stemware with a dark blue band. Just lovely! The mariachis strolled while singing and playing, trying to stop at any celebrants table. That was nice.

Offered a drink. It came. Never offered a refill. Offered wine by a passing server, never offered a refill. Never offered coffees or after dinner drinks. Plates were removed about half of the times, otherwise we just stacked dirty upon dirty.

The chef did stop at our table early on. That was also nice. We were on the appetizer course.

The food room was dirty. There was food on the floor. There were many empty trays and bowls, like guacamole. Many items did not have tags. Had ID tags been there, I would have not chosen a cayenne/paprika covered ball of salt.

When our entrees arrived, my flank steak was not only inedible, it was also uncuttable! And although the presentation was nice, the food was just not. The guacamole on the plate tasted like avocado--no onion, garlic or lime. It was flat. Fortunately, I had seen mole chicken in the starter room, so I went back for that.

I am not sure I would go to this restaurant again.

We started off with Tequila and everything got better from there, lol! Our welcome drink was a Mango Margarita served on the rocks, it was excellent. When cherry Tequilla is added, it is even better. Two soups are offered as appetizers as a huge buffet with many selections. Tortilla soup and Stone soup were both excellent.

Our main courses were beef and chicken fajitas exactly how they should be prepared. Dessert was a collage of cakes and squares presented on a dessert buffet.

The Marachi band and sombreros are lots of fun and provide a great photo op as a memory. This restaurant is not really busy as it is away from the main areas of the resort. I definitely recommend taking the time to eat here.

A mariachi band played, they were amazing and VERY entertaining. Such a great way to end our trip! This restaurant had exceptional seafood, better than the seafood a la carte on the resort. The staff were up beat and fun. The whole night had everyone smiling, clapping and dancing in their chairs!

We visited GBP Mayan Riviera during the first couple weeks of November 2015 and ate at the Tequila restaurant on November 10th. The food was all relatively good; however, I find the appetizer and dessert buffet area is not kept very clean or appealing looking - Everything tastes good, but there is no-one obviously keeping things looking good and serving the el pastor, etc. I'm sure it's just a matter of there not being quite enough staff on, but it's small things like this that make a big difference. The soups were both delicious as was the Red Pipian Chicken and Mixed Fajitas. We were disappointed that the Shrimp Fettuccine was no longer on the menu.

This time it was just ok. I am still not convinced the lamb entree was actually lamb. It was more like a really cheap and rubbery stewing beef. AEntertainment was good though as were the hot stone soup
