“A wonderful stay”
Reviewed 9 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week in your well equipped, cosy and comfortable annexe which catered for all our needs. We were able to enjoy sitting in the garden after a day's walking or sightseeing due to the lovely sunny September weather. Croyde and the surrounding area is very picturesque with great sandy beaches.

“Relaxing Break”
Reviewed 17 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

My wife and 2 year old son stayed over Easter. We found the property comfortable and well maintained. The Garden is fully enclosed so it was perfect for our son to run about in, although there is a drop between the garden and path (approx. 2/3ft) so you had to keep more of a watch than if the ground was completely flat.
The property is located a minute’s walk from central Croyde and about ten minutes from the beach. This meant that in the evenings when out for dinner and the little man gets "grumpy" it’s a very quick walk back to the apartment. The trade of being that after a day's worth of surfing, the walk back from the beach is exhausting!
One thing to remember is to open the bathroom window when taking a shower, on the first day my wife set of the fire alarm with all the steam (Something I didn't even know was possible until it happened!)
Will definitely stay again.

“Lovely cottage great location.”
Reviewed 1 April 2015 for a stay in September 2014

My partner and I stayed for 1 week in this bungalow and had a great holiday. Its just the right size for a couple or a couple with a small child. We couldn't fault the cleanliness of the bungalow. The kitchen was well equipped the lounge very comfortable and the shower room looked new. We are surfers and wanted something close to the beach. The village of Croyde was a three minute walk with many places to eat. I can recommend the Thatch the Blue Groove and the Manor as we had good meals in all of them. Being able to walk to the village was a bonus so we parked our car and didn't have to drive all week. Just booked again for September. Cant wait

“Lovely annexe, Close to Croyde (great pub food) & close to 2 sandy beaches”
Reviewed 24 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Lovely annexe, ideal for a single person or a couple, spacious kitchen with patio leading into a nice little garden, very close to both the centre of Croyde (Highly recommend 'the thatch' for some gorgeous pub food) and near to two beaches- 10 minute walk to Croyde beach or a 20 minute walk/ 3 minute drive to the dog friendly half of the gorgeous sandy pitsbourgh sands.

We really enjoyed our stay here, everything was up to scratch, the Village of Croyde, whilst small, has a lovely feel to it and some great places to eat out. And the local beaches are excellent

“Terrible place to stay”
Reviewed 30 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We booked this accomodation for 7 nights this october half term but only managed to stay 3 nights before we had to move to other accomodation because the sofas & bed are the most uncomfortable we have ever used & after 3 days of no sleep we had to leave. The electrics of the place are all extension leads, apart from the kitchen, there was mould spores on the ceiling, heating in lounge didnt work and lots of other issues. We are now in the process of trying to recover our deposit and the money for the days not used as well as compensation towards the other, more expensive accomodation we have had to rent for the continuation of our honeymoon. The owner was not willing to discuss this reasonably

Total Nightmare Guests

We are extremely sorry that these guests were unhappy with the accommodation, but weren’t given the opportunity to rectify any of the issues they raised during their stay, as they made no attempt to contact us, until after their departure. We were therefore unaware of any problems until they had already moved into alternative accommodation.

Most of their issues, some of which were quite minor, could have been resolved very quickly. The cut-out switch on the lounge heater had tripped and our electrician re-set it within an hour of our telephone call. Their other complaints concerning the outside light not working, no pegs supplied and no smoke alarm, were actually incorrect.

Unfortunately, we would not have been able to replace the bed, however it is only a few years old and of very good quality. No other guests have complained about either this or the lounge furniture, which again, is only a couple of years old.

The small area of mould on the bathroom ceiling, which was about the size of a 50p piece, was caused by condensation, as previous guests had not opened the window to ventilate the room after showering. Our housekeeper had cleaned this off with a fungicidal cleaner and we can only assume that marks came back because the window in the bathroom had been kept shut.. Our housekeeper would have been more than happy to return and clean the area again for them, given the opportunity.

As far as the ‘electrics being all extension leads’, this is not the case. There are plenty of electrical sockets throughout the property and we only use extension leads when needed and these are supplied to the correct standard.

We felt that as we were not given the opportunity to rectify any of their issues before they left the property, it was unreasonable to expect a refund.. We would have considered giving them something as a compromise gesture, however, when we spoke with Mr Benson later that day, he was extremely offensive and abusive, to the extent that we had to notify the Police about his threats and the incident was logged.

Other guests that have stayed recently (2014) at Croyde Shores say:

‘Lovely clean cottage, very homely and comfortable, in an excellent location with some great amenities within a 5 minute walk. Plenty of options to eat out without having to drive and also a post office and convenience store. A lovely southwest facing garden which was perfect to sit out in during the evening.’

‘Great location, walking distance to beach pubs and shop. Lovely beach and walks. Quiet peaceful holiday cottage’

‘We enjoyed our stay at Croyde Shores and the property is ideal for 2 people. The beach (if walking) is a little further away than we thought, if loaded up with beach items. The shops are within easy walking distance of the property and has 3 lovely pubs, restuarants and shops. No need to take the car’

‘Property is small but very well equipped and maintained. It is tucked behind another property with access by small uphill driveway with Parking space at the top for one car it has a fairly secure sunny garden and small patio area with BBQ facility the nearest beach is 10 mins walk but has strong rip tide and dogs are not allowed between May/sept.’
