“Outstanding Experience”
Reviewed 28 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

My husband and I stayed for five nights in late June into July. We were completely charmed from the moment we opened the door. Truly, I thought, "Oh, can I just live here?" The cottage is cozy, but so thoughtfully designed that it was not the least bit cramped. Unique touches like the antique stained glass window between the kitchen and bath, colored glass window blocks in the exterior walls, copper countertops, and all the handmade pottery make this a very unique place. The many large windows with trees all around give it a tree house feel (especially in the wonderful loft bedroom - GREAT bed), but because the patio fronts onto a pasture, you also have a lovely open view of the farm below and mountains - best of both worlds. Sipping coffee on the patio in the morning (or wine in the afternoon), with the gentle baa-ing of the sheep and soft clucking of the turkeys in the distance was so relaxing. LOVED the soaking tub - and how nice to not have to worry about chemicals! The outside landscaping is also done very nicely, with a natural look. We made good use of the farm store for provisions, and the kitchen is amply stocked for cooking. They even managed to fit in a little washer and dryer, which was very handy. Poultry processing took place while we were there -- we received a warning/invitation (depending on your sensibilities) email the day before (the Wi-Fi there is excellent, incidentally - but NO cell service). We elected to observe for a bit - was a good education to see what's involved in getting a chicken from a live animal to nicely wrapped in plastic and ready to eat. (We purchased a freshly-processed chicken, which was fabulous.) Guests are welcome to walk around the farm, so it was clear to see that all the birds are humanely raised, with plenty of access to pasture. When I inquired about a place to buy local organic produce, we were invited to pick our own out of the owner's personal garden, as they had a surplus of squash and cukes. And I should mention that we received an email on the day of check-in advising us that the cottage was ready, if we would like to check in early - very considerate. To sum our whole stay up: simply perfect.

Liked best: The creativity used in building/finishing the cottage and landscaping the site.
Liked least: The dehumidifier ran a lot, but...it's NC in the summer. Plus we didn't keep the A/C cranked up, which would have helped.

“Awesome retreat”

Can't express how much we loved our mountain retreat. The cottage was perfect for us and we found that we wanted to return to it more than we expected. Knowing that there was this beautiful, quiet oasis waiting for us was enough to cancel dinner reservations and enjoy cooking at home! Coffee and hot tub during sunrise, not much more to say!

“Perfect, private getaway with nature's beauty and a quaint, adorable cottage.”

I looked and looked for a small, quaint cabin for our 20th anniversary getaway. Everything was too big. I finally found this and read all,the reviews and knew it was the place to be! This cottage is located at the north end of East Fork Farm. You pass the farm animals, pond, barn, farm store, mill and main house on your way up the drive. It is perched on the side of the mountain with gorgeous views of the valley and mountain tops. There is a creek that runs down the mountain on the other side of the drive that you can hear. It is just lovely!

You park at the front door and enter at the kitchen. If you walk straight through to the other side of the house, there are sliding glass doors with the view of the valley. When you walk out those doors you are on the back patio overlooking your view. You can sit on that back patio in the nice afternoon sun or you can sit in the Japanese soaking tub under a huge tree. My husband and I weren't so sure about the soaking tub as we absolutely love hot tubs.

The Japanese soaking tub was by far one of the very best things at this property! It fits two perfectly and is very quiet. The water temperature was perfect. When we got there it was raining a little bit but since it's positioned underneath this big tree we were still able to enjoy it. The leaves were off of the tree and at night when it wasn't raining we could sit out there and look at the stars. We practically lived in that thing! Asheville is just 30 minutes away. We went there for a day but couldn't wait to get back and never left the property again. We were there for three days.

The college itself was perfect! It was spotless. It was built in 2009 and seems to be brand-new. It had all the amenities of the kitchen minus an oven so we had to use the toaster oven. That actually worked out just fine. The kitchen is stocked with towels and pots and pans and silverware and spices in the cupboard - oil etc. - things like that. The grill stovetop was fabulous! There's also a grill on the back porch that you can use. There are a few games there if you need those, Wi-Fi a television downstairs and upstairs and wireless music. The bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on and my husband has back problems. The bathroom is downstairs and the bedroom is upstairs in the loft. That was not a problem for us. The stairway is just beautiful to walk up and down. The cabin is decorated very tastefully and is just a pleasure to look at. Lots of reading material also.

One of the unique things about this cottage and one of the reasons why I chose it is because of the artistic touch that Dawn puts in it . Not only does she work on the farm but she creates pottery and all of the dishes in the kitchen are dishes that she has made out of pottery. They are beautiful! She has a little farm store where you can purchase other pieces that she has made as well as a few items from friends in the community - jewelry, goat cheese, etc.

Also, a unique thing is that throughout the cottage she has placed items that other people in the community make (with their business cards attached). A very unique touch is that in your refrigerator you will find some farm fresh eggs from the laying hens which are cage free and beautiful chickens! You also find some honey in the cabin from the honeybees and some jam that has been made in addition to coffee that's just delicious. All these things you can purchase more of in the farm store in addition to all different kinds of meats that they prepare on the farm itself.

What is so unique about this cottage is that it is on this farm but it is exceptionally private. You can come and go and never talk to another soul or you could walk down the driveway and visit with Don and her husband Stephen when they have a minute - to learn about their farm. They have interns that work on the farm that were just delightful to visit with is well. We didn't make it down to the pond until our last day and wish we had gone earlier because you can feed the fish there and they'll jump out and eat the food. There's also a place to make a little outdoor fire and a kayak to use. Their donkey is so cute as are their dogs and their cat. You can tell that they love their animals. There are a few cattle on the hillside as well as sheep grazing and lots of beautiful white bunny rabbits. The Gristmill is amazing to look at and is being prepared for another rental. There's a larger rental at the very base of the property when you first come in the driveway as well. Better suited for families.

I can't imagine ever going to another place if you're looking for a place in the mountains. Absolutely wonderful, fabulous, kind, sincere people who are providing a unique experience for those of us who need need a private getaway. Thank you!!

“A little spot of heaven”

I mainly selected this cabin because my wife and I were travelling with our 2 yo and I felt that the farm and the animals would appeal to him more than just some cabin in the middle of the woods. I have to say this place is more than I expected. The cabin is very well decorated and comes stocked with most of the amenities you would need for your stay. The owners also stocked the fridge with some very delicious homemade jam, eggs from the farm, corn meal, and honey. They also have a delightful farm store on the property were you can purchase meats and crafts made on the farm.

Outside is a wonderful view of the surrounding farm and mountains. Also the soaking tub is phenomenal. You could easily spend an entire evening soaking and watching the scenery. You can also tour the farm and make friends with the owners two big friendly dogs, which my 2 yo did in quick order.

The cabin is also just 30 minutes away from asheville. So if you want a night out it can be easily arranged.

Overall I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend this cabin to anyone. The owners have a very good thing here.

“Great Getaway Spot”

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at the East Fork farm cottage. It is so beautiful and nicely situated on the mountain side but more importantly it's very clean and well kept and has every amenity as a fancy hotel but better because it's like living at home . We are close to antiquing in Asheville, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, and even traveling to see the West Smoky Mountains!
