“Heaven on Earth”
Reviewed 24 April 2018 for a stay in November 2017

Herons Nest was an amazing experience. The morning hikes were so peaceful and enjoyable. The view from the back porch is amazing. We could sit there and drink our morning coffee or enjoy and afternoon drink. The cabin itself is so nicely decorated with everything you need and more. I loved the outside view from every room in this cabin. Richard and JoAnna go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Looking forward to going back.

“Beautiful Cabin!”
Reviewed 23 April 2018 for a stay in March 2018

Just as described, a wonderful cabin above the river. Two beautiful bedrooms on each side of the cabin. Very clean, seems like brand new. Very comfortable beds. Love the modern decor blended with the old. Very convenient to Mars Hill and Asheville, but feels like you're all alone in the mountains.

“Bring the dog and your wading shoes to play in the creek”
Reviewed 20 April 2018 for a stay in June 2017

We spent a lovely week nestled in the woods at Heron's Nest. The cottage is well designed for staying in or going out. There are lovely views from all of the large windows in the home. None of the windows have blinds, so you'll have unobstructed views of the outdoors from every room. Great porch off the back. The blending of the old cottage to the new beds & baths is especially well-executed if you love architecture. There are hidden pottery pieces throughout the forest and drive that you will come across as you walk to the river. The hosts have thoughtfully set chairs down at the river if you want to sit a while and relax. The water is shallow so take some water shoes for wading.

It's an easy drive to Asheville, Weaverville & Burnsville for shopping and eating out or just one exit will take you to the Navitat zipline over the forest which we highly recommend. Our hosts were incredible at helping us locate wonderful hiking trails that accommodated our fur-babies. And the lovely walk from the cottage down to the river provided a way to cool off for everyone that doesn't require a car! They even provided 'river towels' to dry off the pups after their swim!

Being an avid cook, I found the kitchen well-appointed with all the necessary tools and full size stove, oven and fridge. Shopping at local farmers markets is easy during the main summer season (Burnsville, Weaverville and Asheville markets are easy to reach from this location). We were also able to get fresh eggs from the farmer at the bottom of the property. There are plenty of spices, coffee, teas, pots & pans and knives if you like to stay in and cook.

Everything in the cottage is new and the place is very clean. You can tell the owners have spent a lot of time thinking about what would be useful in a vacation rental property. They have made many eco-friendly decisions about the building and the systems used to keep the space comfortable. They are lovely to speak with and quick to answer any questions or resolve issues that might come up during your stay. This is a place you won't want to miss if you are in the area. It's like a luxury hotel in the woods.

“Tranquil”
Reviewed 20 April 2018 for a stay in September 2017

We enjoyed hiking in the surrounding area and even more enjoyed watching our dogs romp on the hills and in the creek. We had a blast eating in nearby Asheville's great restaurants and visiting the renowned breweries. Our hosts made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The cabin is modern-rustic with a warm, peaceful feel for a most restful get away.

“Beautiful, peaceful, tasteful!”
Reviewed 20 April 2018 for a stay in March 2018

Love Heron's Nest! Didn't see Herons but did see a deer, a pheasant, and lots of little critters and birds! Mountain views, babbling river, elegantly decorated, wonderful hosts! Very private! Can't wait to visit, again!
