We have been staying at Mitchell's motel for more than 20 years. At our most recent stay we were acutely aware of the lack of attention being paid to detail and cleanliness. We stayed in a "kitchen" suite and were extremely disappointed by the lack of basic kitchen utensils - all that was provided as dishware was service for 2, 2 mismatched forks, no wine glasses, no paper towels, minimal pots with no lids, etc. We did have maid service every day and received laundered, but heavily stained towels. The faucet in the bathroom was detached and the toilet needed to be plunged. The bed pillows with shams were totally flattened which lead me to believe that they had not been changed out for a very long time. Yuck. This is unacceptable considering the price we paid for this unit. It is a great location but definitely needs some serious attention.

We stayed in one of the Deluxe rooms of the lodge and it had the feel of being in a Log Cabin. The room had log furniture and a gas fireplace. It also had a private deck with rocking chairs. We loved the fact that the screened windows could be opened to let in fresh air! However, you could hear highway noise with the windows open, but there wasn't much at night. They do need to put in new TV's.

Clean cozy and rustic close to downtown we had a suite was very nice home away from home, staff very helpful wish we could have brought our dogs but we didn't realize the cabins are the only rooms for pets next time we will book a cabin.

Room Tip: I liked the old room with a fireplace

We were in Highlands for a wedding and this was our first stay at Mitchell's. We entered from Dillard Rd and found that the parking spaces were opposite of our direction of travel. No problem, we just drove past the office and turned around. There are actually two entrances to the property. We stayed in room 17. The room was small, but very clean. Double beds were very comfortable and pillows were average hotel pillows. The closet is okay for shirts and pants, but anything longer will bunch up on the microwave and refrigerator that occupy the bottom of the closet. We hung suits and dresses from the TV mount.. TV is 19" picture tube variety with reasonable channel selections. The bathroom is definitely a one person room, unless one is at the sink and one in the shower. The shower is extremely small..room to turn around and that's about all. My understanding is that some of the rooms have fireplaces.. There is also a big outdoor fireplace, nice for relaxing with friends in the evening. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Continental type breakfast is available from 8-10 and coffee and good loose tea is available all the time. Despite it's shortcomings, I would stay here again...largely because of it's location, comfortable beds, cleanliness, and friendly staff.

Mitchell's is well-located in Highlands, has nice grounds and setting with small stream running through the property, and has a nice outdoor pavillion with fireplace and tables and chairs. The accomodations range from cabins, rooms, and suites in the 3-story lodge like we rented. We had a deck overlooking the stream; a hot tub (in the kitchen?), a gas fireplace; sofa; and king bed. Pleanty of room. Front desk staff always pleasant. Yet, there were shortcomings I would not have expected in such accomodations and at this price: one cushion on the sofa was a thin replacement that made one very aware you were sitting on a hard board; sink and tub missing working stoppers so that neither would hold water; some of the non-matching eating utensils were cheap aluminum rather than stainless steel; the maid did not wash the used coffee cups and two small plates each day (have always been cleaned at any other place we've stayed with a small kitchen); 2 deck boards extremely slippery due to moss/mold caused by unrepaired drip from overhead gutter; and the provided breakfast is mediocre at best and served in a very crowded space.
