The Pig is known in Chapel Hill as one of the better BBQ places (top 10). The line gets kind of long during the rush and their system leaves a little to be desired on the customer service side. There is only one person taking orders and every one else is in the back making the food. This would be fine except the cashier is also the food runner for the entire restaurant.

The pork is good and tender with lots of flavor. Very little fat, if any. The brisket isn't as good, but still very tasty. The hushpuppies are on target. The sides are all on target, especially the fried green tomatoes and mac n cheese.

What two wonderful meals we enjoyed!! My wife had the pork ribs, I had the beef brisket with cole slaw, beans and hush puppies on the side. Both were fork tender and totally luscious. You stop and order at the counter and they deliver it to your table; quick service and very friendly. Would give it ten stars if we had the opportunity. Easy to find: just follow Google map instructions. Phenomenal North Carolina bbq...don’t miss it.

My husband grew up on Eastern Carolina barbecue, and this place did not disappoint. As a vegetarian, I was also not disappointed with options like barbecued tempeh and country fried tofu. The fried okra was delicious and as were the brussels sprouts and shrooms (the only non-breaded cooked veggies on the menu).

I wanted eastern nc bbq. It was not good. Did not seem fresh.
The fried green tomatoes were like hockey pucks.
Most dishes way salty. Hush puppies look like funnel cake and are greasy.
Staff very pleasant. They get the 2 stars.

The chopped pork had many large hunks of fat and gristle, which I despise! It was obviously roasted in a gas fired oven, giving it very little flavor. The 3 sauce choices were: one that was mostly vinegar (to sour), one that was mostly molasses (to sweet), & one that was mostly Tobasco hot sauce. These were in a few sticky squirt bottles, along with room temperature ketchup. Five bottles for the entire resturant to share?!? The drinks are self serve drink machine and tea. The Cole slaw was tasteless but fresh. The refrigerator pickles were limp and slimy. The hushpuppies were greasy, thin and tasteless. The French fries were the only good thing, hand cut and hot. The non existent wait staff spent the entire time we were in the resturant, standing at the ordering counter flirting (a man and woman), giggling and talking... Were they supposed to be working? The space was clean, however there was overpowering grease smoke odor making it unpleasant to sit inside and eat. Came out with my clothes and hair smelling terrible. Need ventilation. They were NO other customers in the resturant at 4pm Saturday... That should have been my clue. Won't be back.
