House is beautiful, spacious and very convenient to visiting Owing Rock downtown and skiing at App. Lovely decor, comfortable rooms and updated kitchen and one master bath. Other master bath and master bedroom need some love. Old, peeling linoleum in bathroom and tiny shower. Lots of scuff marks on walls in bedroom. Mattress not terribly comfortable. Overall a great house and nice to put all the kids downstairs. Beautiful views and great outdoor decks and windows throughout. We would def stay there again.
We had family coming from four states to attend my son's Senior Recital at the Hayes School of Music at App State and needed a place convenient to Boone and Blowing Rock to accommodate us all. We also had a dog. This house was as close to perfect as we could get! The picture of the outside of the house gives you no idea how nice or how roomy the inside is. This older home on Appalachian Ski Mountain has been redone with nice floors, good bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. It also is quite tastefully furnished with comfortable places to to sit--including in front of the gas log fireplace in the great room. The TV is in a sitting area to one side, which was nice. There is another sitting area with TV , dining table and small kitchen downstairs which would be nice if you were traveling with children, since the child friendly bunk room is on that level. Two bedrooms and two and a half baths upstairs and three bedrooms and two baths downstairs make for a good "bathroom ratio." And finally, there is the view! Beautiful and easy to enjoy from inside or on the porches. We would rent this house again.
We really enjoyed our stay in the alpine lodge. The kitchen was well equipped which is sometimes hard to find. We also liked that there were 2 dining room tables in the great room - one for 6 and one for 4. also there was a 2nd kitchen and small living/dining area downstairs which was convenient. It was clean and had everything you may need in a rental house but there were a few things that we wish we would have known.
The bannister around the decks outside and the indoor stairway to the basement (which is in the main living area) had pickets that were too wide. Any child could get through them and my toddler could have stepped right through. the drop inside would have been 12 feet or so and outside was off the 2nd story. Because of this we couldn't let the children out of the house and while indoors we hung the living room rug over the bannister to block the spaces. We felt this was a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed and if so, we would stay here again.
Also 2 of the bathrooms don't have showers - only bathtubs. It was fine for us but I thought others may want to know.
