This is a traditional sea food restaurant but it has two vegan options that saved my day, they were big portions of tasty delicious veggies, NOT A SALAD and i loved it!

We went to La Palapa two times. First time went on Wednesday, yes it's the place where expats hang. Local gringo guitarist played during dinner and he was pretty darn good. Our last meal in Akumal we tried another restaurant around the corner. We wish we would have just stayed with La Palapa. First visit, my wife had the especial, tampinqueno steak, it was really delicious. I ordered octopus ala ajillo, it was tender and tasty. Fancied a mojito but no dice that nite. 2nd visit went with a couple we met down the beach from us. They and my wife ordered the especial, prawns any kind of style.
I had pescado frito, whole fried fish. Everything was tasty. They wre quite busy on Friday night during the off season. Again, full of expats. So far during our two trips to Akumal, this little joint in Chemuyil has been our favourite. Service is good and friendly at this reasonably priced restaurant.

We would not have likely traveled to this awesome restaurant if not for the recommendation of our caretaker. So glad we did! A local favorite, they were so welcoming and had the best food. I loved the giant grilled prawns with cilantro, and my boys were very happy (even the picky eater who was accommodates with a great cheese quesadilla). Best part was the live music (the boys enjoyed singing with the musician!). Not at all touristy and a perfect way to end an amazing trip in the Yucatán Peninsula.

This very popular local restaurant is visited primarily (but not entirely) by American and Canadian gringo tourists staying nearby ot non-all-inclusive lodgings. However there is a good reason for La Palapa's popularity: great food and attentive service at very reasonable prices in a friendly Mexican town. There are mostly seafood entrees, but other mexican and american options are available on the menu. Not fancy and pretentious, this restaurant is an enjoyable place to socialize over a nice dinner. Great atmosphere, as some guests are regular visitors and acquainted with each other and the locals.

On some nights La Palapa has live music; when we were there (Friday night) there was a very talented young woman singing to karaoke recordings (american and international pop songs mostly, but also audience requests). It was an enjoyable addition to the festive atmosphere and fun time.
