This is a small camp ground with approximately 100 RV and tenting spots. Check in and check out time is 11AM. No security gate. The camp sites are very level, with gravel roads, gravel pads and a small patch of grass.
The sites are narrow and “short”, with the standard picnic table and fire ring. Several sites were not long enough to park your vehicle behind your RV. A perpendicular parking spot, with pick-up trucks aligning the road was the norm.
We had a 30 amp spot (#40) with mature trees and water, because they did not have a full hook up available. No cable. No issues with the electric and the water pressure was fine. The grass was trimmed and the fire ring was clean.
The camp office (8AM -6PM) store, bathrooms, laundry and rec room are one building at the beginning of the camp ground. It is neat, inviting and clean. We did not use the laundry room, but it appeared neat and tidy with a TV included. The rec room was locked.
The bathrooms were spotless and the two showers were spacious. A second bath house toward the back of the property appeared clean as well. There is a dishwashing/fish cleaning station on the backside of this building.
The office staff were polite and knowledgeable. Staff will pick up your garbage and deliver your purchased firewood bundle. For an extra $10.00; they will visit your site and clean out your septic.
Strangely, you needed to walk from the office to the maintenance garage , steps away from the dump station; to retrieve your bag of ice. There was no dumpster, but several standard garbage cans in this area as well.
The pool area is in need of a thorough repair. There are sections of the brown wooden fence that are ready to fall. Broken chaise lounges line the back fence. There is a spot where the black top stops, and the gravel/dirt area begins with a foot drop off. The surface is blacktop with aged application marks that you can tell were given a black top coat several years ago. Several spots are cracked and/or heaved.
The pool itself is a large circle with depths that begin at 3 feet and progress to 6 feet in the center. There are no steps at all. There are two opposite ladders that are not affixed at the bottom. This leads to some instability when entering and exiting the pool. The water was clear, but the pool floor is in need of repainting. Toward the center was a green area that appeared to be algae.
The water was frigid. Beyond frigid, actually. Most people could not enter the pool. The ones that did were dared to do so. Almost an ice bucket challenge reboot. The brave soles who did venture to the center confirmed that the green hue was indeed a thick layer of algae.
The playground appeared to be a large plastic little tikes type of unit, surrounded by wood chips. Some overgrown trees were in this area. Toward the back of the property is an alleged volleyball court. The net is perhaps two feet from the ground in the middle. A basketball court also was in need of maintenance.
Overall, we wanted to like this campground, and it does have its charm; but we probably won’t be back. We did not experience any mosquito infestations, sewer smell, or standing water issues that some others have reported.
For us, the years of neglect and substandard overall condition left us wondering how this location maintains their KOA designation. KOA is to inspect every campground every year with their 600 point inspection. The pool area, especially; is a disgrace and it counterbalances any of the other pluses this campground possesses.
With some investment and hard work, the shame of it is that it could be a great spot, given all there is to do in the surrounding area.
