I would have to say that this attraction would be one of the best Whitianga and Greater Coromandel... read more
This is the best accommodation our kids (7 & 5) have experienced. This place is tailor made for them and my wife and I enjoyed it too. The road to get there was pretty bumpy, but not too far. The facilities are well kept and we've been to zoos with fewer animals, plenty to see and our 4 night stay was without a dull moment. It's in a relaxing setting although it was really busy during our stay, as expected so close to New years. The birds sing into the night so take a little getting used to. We hope to return while the kids are still young enough to love it.
We were disappointed by our visit to the bird park. It is run down, untidy and unkempt. Most of the enclosures are unmarked and leaves one wondering the breed of the bird. The grounds are overgrown and the cages are old and it was a waste of money and time.
Dont waste your time or money visiting this park, we got to the counter to be met by the man that owned it, there is no cafe as stated when we looked online, the train wasn’t working he told us he hadn’t bothered to get it out, we wanted to feed the eels only to be told there weren’t any, so three things that were meant to be there weren’t.
There were ALOT of parrots some kept in terribly small cages which made me feel sick for even visiting this park. There were numerous birds that looked ill with missing feathers all over their chests - my 11 year old son was very distressed. The park was dirty and overgrown and needed a good water blast and gardener to clean it all up.
There were also some very unfriendly geese which meant we couldn’t walk all over the park. We left within an hour vowing to NEVER return.
The children (9 and 3) enjoyed their visit, as anything with animals always delights. HOWEVER, the adults were horrified. The place stank of animal poo. The exotic birds were caged in such a miserable environment - only a bare branch to perch on if they were lucky. No greenery, no stimulation - nothing! The place was just so depressing - soulless and desolate. We were very tempted to report it to the SPCA. Still might. They should visit the Bulls Wool Heritage Park in Karangahake for a lesson on how it should be done.
So very cool, made our 4 year old little girl so happy with a train ride for her and her friends awesome park and so many animals to visit and learn about, owners were lovely and were happy to help with anything needed
Was looking up things to do in Whitianga with 2 kids under 10.
Such a good price for what you see. It was great and the kids loved it.
Highly recommend.
