Wonderful service, food and coffee along with a great place to sit and watch the world go by. We were here for breakfast over Beach Hop and although the staff were flat out, the service was great and everyone had a smile. The coffee was great along with the cooked breakfast which my husband said was one of the best that he had - awesome compliment and well deserved.

We arrived just before closing and they were very accomodating over us placing our order (which involved the grill). The next morning we went back for breakfast - Bacon and Eggs - cooked just the way we wanted and plenty of it. Coffee was also very very good. Friendly staff and Fabulous food !!!

We have visited a few times. The omeletes are the best. But these are not always available even though they are on the board

Looking for somewhere to get breakfast mid-morning on a relaxed tourist day in a wet Whitianga. Had seen a few of the cafes on Albert Street but kept walking and then happened upon the Tides Café on the corner near Lee Street. Looked good from the outside with a few locals on the outside seating. Went inside and ordered from the breakfast menu and a slightly non-standard breakfast request was handled with ease by the lady serving. We sat outside and our coffees arrived quickly; they tasted good. A short time after, maybe five minutes only, our breakfast arrived.

The eggs benedict was cooked to perfection and the bacon was very tasty and not overcooked. For me the highlight was the porridge, which was cooked to the traditional Scottish recipe (slightly salty). There was brown sugar available for those with a USA (overly sweet) palate but eaten as served with a little extra milk it was superb and set me up well for a day that just kept raining all day. For about $9 it was great value and breakfast for two with coffees was only about $40 total.
It is quite rare to find such tasty food and good value served quickly from lovely staff. Well done Tides Café, next time I come through Whitianga in the morning time I know where I will be going for breakfast.
