Not worth what we paid

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Jul 2024
My husband was extremely excited to take us to his childhood vacationing spot in Old Forge This summer as we rarely get to spend quality family time together because he travels for work. He wanted to take the kids to enchanted safari, which he hadn’t been to since he was a teenager (he is 42 now) and neither I or the children had ever been.
We looked online and felt extremely excited about the McCauley Mountain suite we booked for three nights at The Waters Edge Inn.. I though it was a little off there were not more pictures of the rooms on the website but I didn’t think to far into it. We spent over $1100 for the room for three nights alone with passers to the water park for two days… which put us in an average of $330 per day just to be there. Arrival at the room was immediately disappointing for me. Neither of the telephones in the room worked, the room was horribly hot no air conditioning had been turned on and it was a very hot day… there is no elevator and I was dripping with sweat after unloading four peoples luggage and bringing them up the stairs. I went to start putting things away and opened the fridge to find it dirty and there was leftover food still inside.

I went to call the front seat and that is when I discovered neither phone worked.
I went to the desk where someone was helpful and came to clean it for us but I was just a little put out considering how much the room cost per evening. I’ve never paid that much for a room without too notch amenities and there was not even a coffee pot of keurig in the room.

Later on my son wanted to take a bath in the jacuzzi tub but we could not get the water much hotter than Luke warm no matter how much we spun the dial or waited.

The following day at the waterpark was terrible we arrived right at the opening of the day (10am) and by 1 pm we had made I through the lines to ride only 2 water slides…. We stopped into a pizza wing joint in the park to have lunch. We put our order in at 3 PM and at 4:15. I went to the counter to ask for our food because many people had ordered and left with their food before us. They had lost our ticket and we spent almost 2 hours just sitting there in the restaurant waiting for our food and then eating losing all of that time at the park as well, I went to the office when I return to the hotel and return the tickets that I had purchased for the following day because we were not impressed with the park…
I spent the entire day at the waterpark, completely dry and hot and annoyed so many people I’ve never seen lines that long and everything cost money if you wanna wait in line for tube and then wait in line once you get it that’s fine But you could rent to so that you could skip the waiting for for a tube line. They offered cups with “free” refills, but three refills were only free every certain amount of minutes if you want to get one and you were very thirsty and drink it right down and went to fill it again it would deny you or refill it would say you had to wait.
I’m not fully impressed with any part of this trip. My husband said He remembered it as a much more magical place, but I guess his children we do remember things differently I would spend my money elsewhere in the future.

Room Tip: Breakfast is terrible no protein, muffins we uncooked and unappetizing.

Thank you for your review of the Water’s Edge Inn in Old Forge, NY. I am sorry that you and your husband had a disappointing stay at the hotel. We try hard to make sure that all our guests have a positive experience. I am also sorry that your refrigerator was not clean when you arrived. We pride ourselves on clean rooms because that is what all our guests deserve. Thank you for noticing that the phones are not working in the McCauley Mountain Suite. We are looking into that matter.

We offer coffee, tea, and hot chocolate throughout the day and evening in the Great Room and there is a Keurig for guest use in the lobby. Coffee is also available during our complimentary continental breakfast.

Please keep in mind that we always have someone in the building to call if there is a room issue even if the front desk is closed. I do believe that the hot water situation could have easily been taken care of by someone at the front desk or by the night manager.
I also understand that waiting for a water ride, a tube, or food at Enchanted Forest Water Safari can be disheartening. With record breaking high temperatures, the water park has been very busy this summer.

Many of our guests have been very excited about the refillable souvenir cups and mugs. Sorry for the confusion about the mugs. Refills are free, but not unlimited. A ten-minute wait is required after the machine dispenses 16 oz of soda.

If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I would be happy to make your reservation personally and see to it that you enjoy the experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

We recently stayed three nights at Water's Edge and were extremely happy with our stay. Yes, the bathroom is very small and the weather was terrible, but out stay was amazing. Everyone there was so friendly and helpful. The only downside was that not much is going on in the Village. But we definitely would go up again.

Blast from the past! I think the carpet, furniture etc. are more than 20 years old. We had been in Lake Placid, and the weather was beautiful, so we decided to extend our trip. We did book a balcony; the lake was so pretty. The desk attendant also prepared the continental breakfast the next morning, she was very nice. This place needs a do over and an elevator!

Room tip: Cost is far too much for the age of the place and the amount of guests.

To call the room we stayed in “suite” is VERY misleading. We stayed in a lakeview king suite overlooking the lake. The room was very small to be considered a suite. The bathroom was basically the size of a closet. Anytime you used the bathroom #1 or #2 the toilet clogged and you had to plunge it. We were excited about them having a pool as well, but it was utterly disgusting. There is a ring of visible filth around the inside of the pool on the tile that you can scrape off with your finger. Everything is super outdated and the photos on the website are EXTREMELY misleading. The “arcade” is not really an arcade. The worst part for my husband and I thought was the bed. Our bed felt like we were sleeping on the ground on top of rocks. We got no sleep while staying there because of this. The only decent parts is the location of it being right across from water safari, they offer continental breakfast and the view from the balcony of the room was nice. Those few things are not enough for us to every stay here again.

Perfect location great hotel. We had a beautiful view of the lake and a state beach. Room was comfortable and just what we wanted. Very good looking continental Breakfast. Was able to have coffee and hot tea, and hot chocolate during the day until nine o’clock at night. Front desk worker pleasant, helpful, and willing to help you with any questions you have.

The waters edge is located directly across from water safari, which makes it very convenient. It is also in Old Forge, not many new places in this town.
I read reviews of other places in the area. We decided on waters edge. We knew there was not an elevator.
The hotel room was very big and clean. We were on the second floor overlooking the park. Yes, the room could use a fresh lighter coat of paint. Other than that, no complaints. Nice towels, convenient soap, shampoo, conditioner dispensers, the shower worked fine I like that the sink was separate from the toilet and shower area. Our room was 226

The front staff was very friendly upon arrival. Very helpful.

The breakfast area was very nice nothing elaborate just what you need for breakfast. There were cereals, fruit, yogurt, muffins, toast, coffee.
The pool area could use updating. It was a strong chlorine smell walking through there.
We plan on staying here again next year
