We stayed here on the final leg of a trip that included several greek islands. Of all the properties we researched and booked in advance of our trip, this was the one I was 1) most excited to stay in and 2) most afraid it would not live up to our expectations.

Fortunately, as the title of this review indicates...the hotel was just as we imagined.

The experience of staying here is an intimate one; meaning you will likely get to know the Manager, the Housekeeper, and other guests on the property.

The location is truly exceptional. We didn't realize until we ventured out to walk the rest of the island how protected we were (relatively) from the bustling, touristy areas of the island. The strip of land that houses other luxury hotels and restaurants feels like exactly that...the commercial tourist area. The Sea Captain's House is so much more removed from the traffic by comparison.

All of the glowing reviews speak the truth so I will simply focus on what I didn't know and readers might want to know...

Lounging on the front terrace to enjoy the view is lovely...but be prepared to endure a steady stream of other (non-guest) tourists seeking to capture a perfect picture of Oia, because guess what? The Sea Captain's House is "ground zero" for the perfect view. Needless to say, this means the occasional loud tour group, or selfie-seekers who have no hesitation to stand directly in front of your terrace and capture their own photo memories through out the day. We also had a number of people open the terrace entry door (clearly marked "private). But this was the only negative associated with an otherwise perfect property.

The property is an easy walk down to the port-side restaurants although you may want to catch a ride on one of the donkeys headed back up the hill unless you are trying to work off the delicious wine and food you will enjoy in abundance.

The Manager arranged everything from dinner reservations to ATV delivery (and a second delivery after we had problems with the first). Old world charm meets 5 star amenities.

This is the type of hotel you think about long after you've gone in fond ways.

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful but we were glad we sprang for the larger terrace.

We stayed only one night which was too short but as it’s so difficult to book in santorini the place was sold out for the other days.

The room was nice, spacious and had a good feel. The bed I didn’t like , too small and I couldn’t really sleep in it. Breakfast in the morning is lovely, everything fresh and plenty of choice. Just be aware that you sit outside and all tourists are passing by and are making pictures in front of your room, so forget about privacy.

Upside is that you’re in the heart of oia and in the morning you can be the 1st one to hit the streets and make stunning pictures.

Next year again.

Dear Mr. Juffrie

We feel satisfied to read your compliments of satisfaction regarding your stay, the service, the location and the view.
Just to clarify, that your bed was king size – 1.80x2.00 (Maybe be confused with another property)
We are looking forward to your next visit to Oia.

Always at your disposal,

Warm Regards

We stayed here for 4 days towards the end of the season and the hotel is absolutely lovely. We got the last room available- the Venetian Suite- which was very romantic and comfortable. The balcony for this room is a bit on the small side, especially when you look at the one next door but otherwise everything about this hotel is terrific, including the Spectacular view of the water, the town and sunset. Takis, the manager and his staff are very helpful and made our stay even better, from the warm welcome to organizing trips and recommending restaurants. Our trip exceeded our expectations and we were sad to leave.

I was a visitor from HK to Santorini and Takis and his team had done a perfect job for the arrangement for my proposal trip with my girlfriend. With their keen help I managed to arrange bunch of beautiful roses for my proposal with the enjoyable view in the balcony. The perfect team of Takis was so helpful and nice. You guys really made us many sweet memories in Oia!

My husband and I stayed in the Venetian Suite for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. It is a beautiful boutique hotel at the heart of Oia (close to the main street, iconic blue domes, sunset point, and bus terminal). We couldn't be happier with our stay. Takis was very helpful from the time of booking to our departure and made awesome recommendations (seriously, go to the restaurants he recommends - you will not be disappointed!). Our room was beautiful and spacious. We shared the balcony with the Sailing Suite, which was fine but I think I would rather book the Sailing Suite next time as the space is much larger and the view is better on the Sailing side. The Venetian Suite's balcony is rather small (but still plenty of space to enjoy breakfast) and is on a busy alley so you will see and hear tourists while eating your breakfast. We didn't mind, of course, as we stared at the beautiful Aegean Sea as we devoured our delicious breakfast every morning. Definitely would stay here again next time we are in Santorini!

Room Tip: Venetian Suite has a larger balcony space and has a better view of Oia.
