With its unique location directly by the seaside, The Drake Seaside Apartment is a wonderful ‚home from home‘: we greatly appreciated the cleanliness of the apartment, the spacious rooms, as well as the fully equipped kitchen - including a washing machine and a coffee machine. Moreover, we thoroughly enjoyed our self-catering breakfasts with local fruits on the large balcony, looking at the boats passing by. Buying basic food and water was easy thanks to the small store just outside the premises, as well as another mini store along the street and up the hill. During the evenings, we were able to watch the fruit bats flying around, living in a large tree next door.
Danielle and Spencer are wonderful hosts, who supported us whenever help was needed. We were also allowed to use their kayaks to enjoy the wonderful sunset from a different perspective. What’s more, they also offered us some grilled and fried fish during one of the evenings, which was greatly appreciated.
Snorkelling directly from the little cove just outside the premises was a great experience, particularly at high tide. That said, it is recommended to wear ‘aqua shoes’ to walk across the rocks without hurting your feet. Walking to beautiful Beau Vallon Beach took us about 15 minutes by foot – which was okay. The only downside of the location were the first 500 meters along a busy street without a sidewalk. If you are walking along the road in the dark, a flashlight is strongly recommended.
We'd definitely love to return to Belombre, staying again at this wonderful little gem.
My family and I enjoyed two weeks at The Drake in August 2018 and had a fantastic holiday. Our apartment had two rooms and was very secure, with its own lockable door, two safes and a shared lockable second door at the bottom of the stairs, where Danielle and family lived (apartment in ground floor), and a gated, drive.
On many occasions we walked down the beach to Beau Vallon for lunch/water sports and a day on the beach. We hired a car for 4 days which was fantastic. The bus drivers do tend to come at you though which can be a bit scary.
The transfer to the villa wasn’t long via taxi (30mins or so) which Danielle organised and we found the apartment to be clean, comfortable and with all equipment we needed including a washing machine and airer. Bedding and towels were changed every 3/4 days and the apartment was swept.
Eating out wasn’t cheap (£120 for one course and drinks) but we found the shop up the hill and the one up the drive (literally steps away) catered for what we needed. Take some local currency, although the hotel next door will change it for you (we had Euros) and sometimes you can pay in restaurants in Euros too but the ex rate isn’t always ideal.
We visited the botanical gardens, one of the marine parks (boat trips), and a few of the beaches in the south via car hire. Car hire was organised through Danielle and the boat trips through the traders on the beach at beau vallon. We didn’t do any of the walks/zip wire as our boys were happy having “another beach day”. Snorkelling was great and the advice of previous visitors to take beach shoes (basically waterproof trainers) was very wise! The coral can easily cut your feet open.
Danielle’s kids were fantastic the kayaks were good fun (although not easy in choppy water - for poor old Mum)! And help was at the ready whenever we wanted to use the winch, which was pretty easy to use on our own anyway!
A fantastic family holiday in a tropical paradise, great food, friendly people, gorgeous. Our only regret? Two weeks wasn’t long enough.
The Balcony is the star here, any time of day.
Great location, very nice apartment with all mod cons. It is Secure and hosts are friendly and helpful.
If you stay here trek to Anse Major nearby, you may just get one of the nicest beaches all to yourself if you go early!! Epic views...
We have just arrived home from spending 13 nights at the Drake Seaside Apartment. Danielle and the rest of the host family are lovely, they leave you alone but are there if you need them, the perfect situation.
The apartment was very clean, well furnished and had everything you might need. Okay, as some previous reviews state the kitchen appliances and utensils were quite basic, but unless you are a Gourmet chef, I don’t think there was anything to complain about.
We were quite disappointed that the Kayaks were not available for use. This was a big selling point for us and the children especially were excited at the prospect of having the use of them. However, when we arrived we found that the winch that was used to take the kayaks down to the beach was out of commission due to some renovations being carried out. We were told we could still use the kayaks but would have to carry them down the steps to the beach by hand. This proved impossible as the gate to the steps was around the side of the house, in a very tight position and the steps themselves are very narrow and precarious. Plus, the kayaks were very heavy and awkward for my husband and 13-year-old son to carry.
The other thing I was a bit dismayed at was that each day, sand filtered in from the ceiling onto the breakfast bar in the kitchen and other various places, including the bedroom, (thankfully not on the bed).
Overall it was a lovely place to stay and I would fully recommend it. But the Kayaks and sand problems do need to be addressed.
WOW!!!!! It would be extremely difficult to find a place that can exceed the Drake sea side appartement. The view is amazing, the Host is unbelievable (courteous, friendly, attentionate, Etc...) It's perfectly located, bus stop is just a few steps away. The convenient store is right next door. Beau Valon beach is 5 mins by car. I can tell you that when I go back to the Seychelles, this is one place that I'll definitely be booking.
Thank you Danielle for the wonderful stay. Hope to see you soon. My wife is saying very soon!!!
