We live nearby, so Carson's is a place that we will pop into when we want to go out, but can't decide among the many excellent restaurants in the area. And usually, we are pleased as reported in my earlier review from four years ago.
Not so last night.
Wife had a turkey sandwich and reported that it was very good. Took half home and had it for lunch today.
I had the fish and chips. Absolutely the worst fish and chips I have every had, anywhere. I don't know what the breading was made from (cornflakes, perhaps - it had that texture), and was overcooked to the point of being charred. The chips were no better - which is surprising since the fries I have had with other dishes have been pretty good. I will never order that dish at Carson's again - and if the management is wise, it will disappear from the menu.
We arrived around 4:30 and were seated inside by the window. After we arrived, additional guests were seated at the other two window tables. The initial waitress was pleasant, but for some reason, she took their orders before she took ours. And of course, the initial waitress left at the end of her shift at 5pm and was replaced by a total stranger with no personality at all.
Carson's is located on Route 9P - a narrow, winding road along the edge of Saratoga Lake. The speed limit is 35mph along most of the way, and is rigidly enforced because of both the cottages and pedestrian traffic, and because that road is a popular biking route. But the speed limit increases to 55mph at the end of the road nearest to route 9 - directly in front of Carson's where cars are attempting to get out of the crowded parking lot. This was not a wise move by the NYS Department of Transportation. I would think that the management of Carson's would complain to the State to have the point where the speed limit changes a bit further up the road to avoid the risk of accidents right at their front door.
