Fairfield Inn-Queens

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Jul 2019via mobile
We stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Queens during our trip to New York City. Although it is in Queens there are two different subway stations within very easy walking distance and Manhattan is only a few stops away. The area around it could be described as industrial or a working class neighborhood but I never felt unsafe. Our room wasn’t big and having 4 adults in one room didn’t help but we made it work. I thought the breakfast was quite good and had a large selection and a nice seating area but it can get crowded at peak times (like any hotel). Everything in our room worked well and it was clean.

I don’t understand the negative reviews. If you are expecting a suburban hotel with huge rooms and an expansive free parking lot with chain stores and restaurants all around you will be disappointed. This hotel was perfect for our needs and much cheaper than what we found in Manhattan. I would definitely stay here again.

My family of 5 stayed one night here to be near the airport since we had to get up at 4 am to make our 7am flight. Thankfully my husband found street parking to avoid the $35 parking fee. The room was tiny and even though the hotel was built 7 years ago - the carpet , bedding , etc seemed old - there was a stain in the middle of the sheet and the red bedskirt looked very cheap. The elevated train is right outside - we had the AC fan on all night so it woulnd't bother us since we could only sleep a little. There was a sound machine in the room but we didn't use it. The bathroom looked clean and ok. We didn't get to try the free breakfast since we left so early. The surrounding area looked unsafe. I would not stay here again.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel, may 26 - 29 and thoroughly enjoyed it.Our room was on the 15 th floor (top) and right beside the elevator. Never heard the elevator! Front desk were pleasant and helpful. Complimentary breakfast 7am - 9am was good. Fresh fruit, breads, oatmeal, cereal, hard boiled eggs, turkey sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, juices, coffee and tea and best easy waffles to make. Found the bed to be very comfy, room a good size, great water pressure. Found the wifi to be a bit spotty in our room and the toiletries were not the easist to get use. Shampoo didn't want to come out! Just a 5 minute walk to the subway.

Easy access from the airport, take bus Q7 to the subway and the N or R or Q (think those were the numbers) subway to the hotel. Fairly easy with carry on luggage but would not want to try with a large suitcase as there are stairs. Would definitely stay again.

Booked this hotel after browsing through many great reviews about this place in various forums. But found the place was nowhere close to those reviews.

The hotel neighbourhood is bad, except for the fact that there is a Metro station very close by, and room is very small, with hardly any place to keep the luggage.

Breakfast area is tiny with very limited tables and you will see guests scrambling for your seat once you get up to refill your plate. I am not too sure how the hotel management thought this much of breakfast area is enough for this hotel with so many rooms.

The reception staff are not courteous, and they wouldn't listen when the guests approach them with a problem (unrelated to the hotel) and ask for their advise. They just don't care.

I would hesitate to recommend this hotel to any of my friends, as the overall experience was far from satisfactory, and I wonder how Marriott is able to put their tag in this type of hotels.

Room tip: Reviews can be deceptive :-(

We booked for 3 nights with 2 operators 2 months in advance but 2 weeks before our stay the hotel cancelled 2 nights. The poor breakfast arranged in a small and dirty site and the size of the "double" room was not at Marriott level.

Room size were sufficient for our family of 2 adults and an 11 year old child as the immediate surrounding the hotel was nothing but I can see the area will be developed into a high class residential area in the future. Distant to Queens Plaza subway took only about 5-8 min and it seemed safe to walk between hotel and subway entrance (it's called the Northern Blvd & 41 Avenue). Only to note is during breakfast peak timing, we had to bring food to our room on one occasion but during our stay, it seemed there was always sufficient food to share. Will come back and stay again at this place if I am visiting on the same budget.

Room tip: It doesn't matter as there will be lots of developments going around for the coming months but there was no noise during resting hours!
