We stayed in room 1506. The room was huge for NYC standards and almost everything was sparkling clean. However, it looked like someone had spilled glue on several pieces of furniture and no one had ever bothered to scrape it off. The spots weren't sticky but they didn't look nice. The bed was very comfortable and we had a lovely view of LIC (not of NYC).
The room is equipped with an ironing board and iron, which I appreciated. There are Dove toiletries in the bathroom (although the shower gel ran out on our second morning, meaning no one had checked the level recently). The shower had low water pressure, which is a problem for me because I have a lot of hair. There were plenty of towels provided.
One strange thing happened during our stay. I take a medication every evening and I use a pill cutter to divide the pills: I only take a quarter of a pill each evening. On our first evening I cut half a pill and left the remaining quarter in the pill cutter box, as I regularly do. When I went to take my pill the next night, it wasn't in the box! After much searching, I found it on the floor. In all of my years of taking this pill, this has never happened to me. I can only imagine that the housekeeper had something to do with it: Either s/he opened the box out of curiosity and dropped the pill and couldn't find it or dropped the whole box and it opened up and the pill fell out. However, this box closes very tightly and you really have to press to open it, so it seems unlikely that it could have opened by accident.
The elevators were very fast, which is great: I've stayed in too many hotels where you wait ages for an elevator during rush hour (i.e. breakfast/check-out time). The breakfast was OK ... nothing special. It was pretty crowded on Sunday morning. The staff didn't do a great job of keeping empty tables cleared and wiped clean but I don't know how many tasks they were juggling at once.
The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but we didn't have any unpleasant experiences while walking to and from the subway, even late at night. However, on Saturday night I was woken up by EXTREMELY loud music making our whole room vibrate, even on the 15th floor. It seemed to be coming from outside but I was too tired to be sure. Other than that our room was quiet.
