Pro: location is excellent. Just only a few minutes to Manhattan. Subway F train is nearby.

Con. Internet is not high speed internet. Buffet is not varied. Need to upgrade quality of high speed internet & breakfast.

The hotel is quite fine. My room was spacious and comfortable and the lobby area is kind of pleasant. The issue is with the location. Queens is a thriving borough. Long Island City and Astoria are great neighborhoods. The trouble with the Wingate is that it's right in between these two, in a residential area, next to one of the largest projects in the City of New York. The 21st Street-Queensbridge subway station is just two blocks away. There's a corner bodega across the street from the hotel that is open 24/7 but which during nighttime keeps its doors locked and sells whatever is needed (mostly beer) through a small window. Nothing else in the neighborhood, except graffity. On the first night I walked the ten minutes to and from the closest bar, The Huntress (a great place). The streets were deserted. The following nights I would take a taxi to Astoria for dinner. Like one taxi driver said, the neighborhood is not dangerous -- but better not to walk around after dark.

We stayed in a room with windows facing the main street. The street is very noisy, you can hear music and shouting almost all night long, and every night a garbage truck comes and makes noise. The hotel windows have absolutely no soundproofing. Opposite the hotel there is a large residential building and a laundry, so it is very noisy. We recommend taking a room with windows on the other side, perhaps it is quieter there.
The area where the hotel is located is not very prosperous, there are a lot of drug addicts and suspicious individuals. It is better to travel by taxi.

The hotel rooms are clean and have everything you need. We also received a free breakfast as a gift from the hotel. The breakfast is very modest. Dirty tables and flies flying around. We preferred to have breakfast in the city.

The hotel and staff are great. It's once you step out of the hotel you remember the area you're in. It feels as if the neighbors are always outdoors watching you leave and comeback to the hotel.
The metro is nearby about 5 min walking distance.
There's a laundrymat across the street.
