I made a reservation to this location on Choice Hotels. I received confirmation as well as a "we're looking forward to your stay" email the week before. We arrived to find out that it was a woman's shelter and we were out a hotel and our pre-paid stay. Worst feeling ever getting to NY with no place to stay with most hotels already sold out and the plans made didn't exist. STAY AWAY!

Unbelievably HORRIBLE service! I booked the stay on HURB.com (don't make this mistake) a few days ago and called this morning to confirm if I could send myself a package and they asked when I made the reservation, when I said a few days ago they said "no you don't have a reservation with us, we aren't taking new reservations due to remodeling. call the hotel next door and they will get you room" What?? no Im sorry no nothing.... I told them how much of an inconvenience this was, imagine arriving to NY with luggage and finding this out there. she just replied "yea yea yea.. just call them next door and they will honor the same price and they are a sister company." again no apology.
The hotel next door had no idea what this was about nor were they a sister property or even offer the same price. they just said I needed to call "Choice" but not giving me a contact number or knowing who this is is useless.
I have been calling the Sleep Inn 15 times now, letting the phone ring till the phone disconnects and zero answer.
THIS PLACE IS SCAMMING PEOPLE
I legit hotel would have apologized, asked what website I booked the room on so they could contact them and have them not offer new stays till they are available. They would also, offer my money back immediately, not lie about a "sister property" and say they would honor the same price.
I hope many will see this and not take the risk here at the Sleep Inn.

This was the most disgusting place I’ve ever slept in and I’ve been all over the world. The room smelled so horrible, the tub and toilets were stained. When I first came in the room there were tissues on the floor. The phone didn’t work, the plugs in the bathroom didn’t work so I was unable to do my hair for a meeting I had. There was only one lock on the door which was useless and the other locks had been removed. The were no lights in my room except for the light by the door and in the bathroom. Also, please be aware that this hotel is across the street from the projects. I was fine with that personally, but some people who aren’t from NYC may be uncomfortable with that. There are drug addicts and dealers and prostitutes outside of this hotel just as a heads up again for people not from NYC. I was fine with what’s going on outside of the hotel, but the inside of this place is so incredibly disgusting. I hated sleeping on that nasty bed! I didn’t see any bugs but I was itching so bad and my skin had hives from scratching so much. My face, neck, arms and legs. And that was only from sleeping on the top blanket FULLY CLOTHED because I never pulled the blanket back to sleep inside it, I was too grossed out to even change into pajamas. The only reason I stayed was because they charged me the full amount plus a security deposit as soon as I got there so I couldn’t really afford to stay anywhere else. They have the nerve to say no smoking and they will keep your deposit if you have smoked in the room when literally every hallway and the room smelled like cigarettes. That’s an entire joke. This was just a horrible experience.

As noted I have stayed at this hotel 25+ stays in the past 12-15 years, and always satisfied. Performance as we start to move out of pandemic VERY POOR.
FIRST, I arrived around 7 PM and there wasn’t a soul at reception. I called the hotel from my phone and while I could hear it ringing no one picked up. It felt like 100 degrees sweltering heat in the lobby. Fortunately I knew that the Best Western next door (though currently closed to the public as they have a contract with the City of New York) is owned by the same ownership so I called them. Eventually someone came over from next door.
SECOND, when I got up to the room and settled the TV didn’t work (screen read “No signal”) I called the front desk and it took 15 minutes till someone came up. Even after he fixed it several of the channels that were listed in the Hotel’s TV Channel Guide did not work and others like CNN were really fuzzy.
THIRD, After he left I noticed that the mini-fridge had not been cleaned out with items left from previous guest. Called the front desk once more, again it took 15 minutes before someone came up.
FOURTH, the in-room safe didn’t work and could not be activated.
FINALLY, the hotel website indicates hot breakfast. As stated, I had been here 25+ times so I was familiar with this breakfast. Once at the hotel I learned the breakfast as been suspended due to COVID. They did offer a to-go alternative which is certainly acceptable option, but it was not good (bottle of OJ with LOTS of sugar, Jimmy Dean egg sandwich with lots of fat).
I asked if the hotel management was authorized to make an adjustment to my bill for these problems and in consideration of my being a long time Choice Hotels Gold Member. I was told I would need to contact Corporate Headquarters and will be doing so.
Hopefully this hotel will restore its previous and better performance

Room tip: I always book room facing the City, only because its quieter

Hi, so i took a 2 day vacation in new york and cimpletely regret it. I went out on my second day for the whole day and came back to missing personal items, including my safe wide open even though i did not use it. Apparantely they house the homeless at this hotel so i assumed they donated my clothes to some of them. I had to sit in my room past checkout on the 3rd day and last morning there, because i actually had no more clothes to wear besides a tank top and my coat. They want tourists to stay more than a day so they can take what they want and laugh in your face. I was soooo upset. Ill never actually be visiting new york again. Killed my experience.

We have stayed in this amazing hotel during our trip to New York in October 2015. Me and my wife. It was very good time. We enjoyed everything. They gave us the highest floor based on our question and we could see everytime Manhattan with Queensboro Bridge (Home Alone 2 vibe :) ) and Empire state building which changed color each night. We would like to especially give thanks for breakfast to "Mia" who was amazing. Another thanks is going to "Pratik". We had a good time and we can totally recommend this hotel because you can easily access Manhattan and subway is very close to the hotel. I hope we can come back again here.
Please note we travelled in October 2015.

Room tip: There is an amazing view in Manhattan. Please ask for the highest floor.
