We were disappointed with our stay at Howard Johnson's in Horseheads. We were placed in a non-smoking room that had a pleasant aroma of stale smoke. After two hours and a headache, we requested a different room. This room worked out fine, that is, until 1:58 AM when we were awoken by the sound of our neighbor's television-we could hear everything on his television, including advertisements from stress/anxiety, which we could have used by that point since his television kept us awake throughout the entire night thereafter (the walls were anything but soundproof). The staff was friendly in responding to our complaints, and attempted to call our neighbor at 2:40 AM, yet our neighbor must have been passed out. Regrettably, we were not offered a refund. Despite the good price, we will not be heading back to Howard Johnsons in Horseheads and are now wary of other Howard Johnsons, for that matter.

This is an above average property for what it is - a travel motel near a major highway.

It is conveniently located off of US 86 (NY 17). The rooms are quite large, clean. They have a fridge, microwave and coffee service. The bathroom is large and well laid out. There is a second sink outside the bathroom and a very large closet area.

There is a nice seasonal pool, and lots of lawn area for kids to play. Dogs are fine for an extra $10.

You can walk accross the parking lot to a Friendly's restaurant (which will do takeout for you). You can also order in Chinese from a menu in the room. Some continental food items are available for breakfast in the lobby, including on our visit croissants.

We'll definitely stay there again on our trips accross the southern tier.
