Small towns are having a hard time with the small businesses.
It was a little disappointing as there are many stores vacant. However we found the people to be very nice and friendly.
Visiting this shopping area is more like going Back to the Future than to a mall.
There are many good old fashioned shops, some more upscale designer stores and several outlet locations.
If you visit the Corning Museum of Glass, it is a stop on their shuttle service, making the location an easy spot for a snack break and diversion.
Interesting historic neighborhood with shops and restaurants. Interesting architecture and nice ambiance.
We relaxed for a while on a couch at the Chamber of Commerce office which is open to the public and has public restrooms.
Corning was once the epitome of a company town and Main St was filled with workman's bars and shops where craftsmen cut the glass from blanks made by the Corning factory. Now it is all trendy shops, antique shops and fine restaurants. Worth the mile long stroll.
Here on September weekend, weather was pleasant and the area has many choices for dining and shopping. The benches along the street face the shops instead of the street, which was a little unusual for those who like to people watch and the overall activity. Prices were reasonable at the stores and dining establishments we patronized. Also the architecture and tree lined streets were pleasant.
A lovely place to visit and so clean. Its almost like a movie set.
Beautiful surroundings
Found a lovely little cafe and had Pumpkin Pie (a must in the US) and fresh coffee, just what we needed after the long walk around the museum of Glass.
A nice touch along the street was the flags flying for all the local heroes (all branches of the military) Each flag with a name and photo of a local military hero. Such a proud nation.
