Located on the the grand Concourse In the Bronx, very easy to get here from downtown Manhattan to the Bronx. Take the D-train uptown, hop off at 167 Street in the Bronx. Hope you enjoy your visit. Thank you

Where else in NY can you find a B&B set in a historical former grand home with a large garden, high ceilings, a panelled library and ballrooms transformed into a community art gallery? The Andrew Freedman House is conveniently located across from the Bronx Museum of the Arts, near Yankee Stadium, with subway lines B and D literally at the door.

The Andrew Freedman House is run by the Mid Bronx Senior Citizens Council and the reservation information is found on their site.

This B&B is amazing for the right guest and soft on the purse. We were simply delighted with the whole experience. Rooms are spacious by NY standards and also very private because of the grand hallway layout. Prices range from $150-$175, depending on room and number of guests. Even room numbers (102-104-106) have private bathrooms and a view on the back courtyard. Uneven numbers (101-103-105-107) have shared bathrooms and view on the large front garden; they are rented out with private bathroom if no one occupies the other room.
Each room has been lovingly restored with period furniture salvaged from the former elegant home and reupholstered by Princess Alexander, the facility manager, and assistant Jimmy Smith.

Breakfast is generous with hot/cold cereal, bread, muffins, eggs, fruit, tea and coffee served in yet another panelled room.

For those worried about safety in the Bronx, this area is now changing and we felt secure. The B&B is under the good watch of Lenie at night. Finding this hidden gem was definitely a highlight of our stay in NY. The remarkable community spirit defining Andrew Freedman House (a training facility for Bronx residents seeking to enter the hospitality industry) puts it at the top of the best accommodations in NY with a social purpose and a soul.

This remarkable historic building was once an elegant retirement home for millionaires. Literallly - you can google it. The large, elegant building is set in gated grounds with the subway entrance literally at the gate. The train runs express to Times Square in 20 minutes flat. The neighborhood is, like the Freedman, landmarked for historic significance, the neighborhood for its remarkable collection of Art Deco buildings. (google; Grand Concourse) The rooms are clean, newly renovated, with new baths and comfortably furnished with period reproduction. Not tiny, actually, large by Manhattan standards. I know, it's not Manhattan, it's the Bronx. But the express train (the "D" train) whips you into midtown. The neighborhood is not great, but (except for architecture buffs who will be perfectly safe touring the Art Deco buildings in the daytime) all you have to do is walk up the subway stairs and walk into the building. (It's also a short walk from both Yankee Stadium and the Bronx courthouse - in case you have reason to frequent either) It's a B & B, not a full service hotel. A great choice for experienced travelers on a budget.
