Owner description: The Hunt family has been farming west of Branchport, NY, on Keuka Lake for seven generations and started the winery in 1981. Our 170-acre farm encompasses 43 acres of wine grapes. The varieties under our care include Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Seyval Blanc, and Vignoles. We are the oldest continuous producer of genuine ice wine in the United States. Our wines have been served at the United Nations, ordered by the White House, featured in Food & Wine and on NBC's Today Show. We have nearly eliminated our fossil fuel use for heating, cooling and electricity by installing award-winning geothermal and solar systems. Our goal is to farm and make wine in ways that ensure the health of our land, water, and air for future generations.

Our first time to visit this winery; this trip we visited 8 wineries.
Walked in and were promptly greeted by our server. Great overview of their wines and nice pours. Loved their whites and their red wine Alchemy and Classic Red. Bought six bottles of wine to bring home (carefully packed) in our suitcases. Initially we thought we'd limit it to 4 bottles but our server said better deal with 6. So 6 bottles it was - great selection.

Thanks for making your first visit to Hunt Country Vineyards! So glad you enjoyed the Alchemy and Classic Red (they are quite delightful). Which white wines were your favorites? Hope you get the chance to stop by again. (And if you're interested, you can always purchase our wines online at our website.)

We waited for about 10 minutes standing at tasting station...NO acknowledgement from any staff. It was not overly busy, but there were a few people. We weren’t in a hurry and would have waited if anyone had simply said, “I will be with you in a minute.” Not impressed.

We’re really sorry if your visit wasn’t a good one. Please get in touch with our tasting room manager, Allie (allie@huntwines.com). We’d like to figure out what happened (and make sure it doesn’t happen again). Thanks.

My wife and I were driving from Naples over to Union Springs when we stumbled on the Vineyard. We live in Texas but were originally from the Rochester area and still have friends in Union Springs. We do enjoy visiting the many wineries in the region and were so glad we decided to stop at Hunt Country. We tasted several of their wines and were extremely surprised on three. We do enjoy a dry merlot and found the Cabernet Franc-Merlot a very pleasing choice. I have tasted many of the lake country reds and find that some have a heavy pepper flavor that i do not prefer. This merlot had a hint of pepper and an excellent finish. The next surprise was the Moscato. Subtly sweet white that was our third favorite.
The best and first choice was the cream sherry. My wife and I enjoy Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry and discovered this to be so much better in our opinion. Delicious! I highly recommend stopping in and experiencing their wines. Exceptional

Thanks for visiting the farm! We are big fans of the Cream Sherry, too. It’s a great dessert wine. But it also goes great with dinner food like corn chowder or acorn squash soup. If you give it a try, let us know what you think.

We stopped here because we had previously been given a bottle of their seyval blanc as a gift and we really liked it. We ended up doing a wine and cheese pairing tasting. They also do chocolate and wine pairings as well. They sell the cheese there from the tastings too. We liked the goat cheese and gouda so much that we bought some to take with us. The cheeses they serve are from a local creamery. We also purchased a bottle of the seyval blanc and the hunters red to take with us. Additionally they have an area where they serve lunch. This is a great vineyard and worth the stop. They have some nice gift shop items as well. The staff was also very nice and knowledgeable.

I have been going to Hunt Country for over 30 years and they have never disappointed. Lovely selections of wines, great cafe and what a view. Staff are friendly and knowledgable. Recently they have added local and musicians traveling through showcasing their talents in the tasting room at night. What an amazing addition. If your not on their events mailing list you should be. Great things are happening there.
