Good With Room for Improvement

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Apr 2024
This property has clearly been renovated, so many older reviews here are moot. It’s a clean hotel, with quiet rooms. Beds are comfortable. Walk-in shower has replaced the tub. Plenty of plugs have been added at the desk and by the bed. Mini-fridge and microwave. Lots of parking. Digital key actually worked. WiFi was fast and no issues with VPN as someone else had.

But they still have kinks to work out:
1. With housekeeping every other day, I asked the maid for clean towels. She took the old ones and told me to get replacements from the front desk, despite her trolley full of towels. Huh?
2. Ran out of butter at breakfast and attendant said there was no more. Really?
3. Fire alarm went off around 1:15 a.m. my last night there. Checking out around 6:15 a.m. on 4/3 after falling to go back to sleep, the desk clerk (who had to have been there for that incident) offered no apologies, no dollar credit, no extra points, nothing. In fact, he seemed annoyed that I stopped at the desk and had the nerve to request a printed receipt.

So it’s 4.5 stars for the room, 2.5 stars for other issues. If they work out the latter it’ll truly be a good place. Would consider a second chance.

Ignore every negative review that was posted before March 2024. This hotel has redeemed itself. I never stayed here before and with all the negative feedback I was very skeptical.

However I thought I would give it a try being I was going to be in the area. I am glad to say I was gently and elegantly surprised. The decor is first class with a modern twist and a touch of quality furniture. I could tell a lot of thought went into the design. It is spectacular!

Very impressive. If you are in the area and you need a place to stay this is the place. It is very comfortable, the rooms are spacious and clean. The carpet in the hallways is very colourful. The elevators appear to be new as well. The lobby is just delightful and the staff is very friendly and obliging. Even the breakfast was good. Every negative review that was written has been addressed and improved upon.

I was traveling solo. I spent some quality me time and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere there. I traveled near the beginning of March. There are Restuarant’s a Target a 24 hour grocery store Applebees, an AMC theater and plenty of other restaurants and shopping within walking distance. I will definitely stay there again.

Very satisfied guest.

I’ve been coming to Rahway since 2017. I stayed her once and have avoided it like the plague since, as it was so dated and depressing. It was really bad.
I decided to book a second time, 5 years later, because I can walk over to Starbucks. It’s just a two night stay so I didn’t get a car.
Their sales/marketing folks really should update the photos on all the websites. I was so dreading coming here.
They’ve completely overhauled this place. It’s one of the nicest looking Hampton Inns I have ever seen.

Got kicked out of the lobby because it was past 10pm. Called the cops on everyone in the lobby. Will never stay at a Hampton inn again. Bathroom was disgusting. Never had an issue in 6 years staying in any hotels.

Room tip: Never again.

I would like to highlight Pamela on the night shift. While working all alone, she managed to handle all the oncoming guests while servicing the existing guests during difficult times during loud construction times. Her pleasant smile was always welcoming.

Room tip: a terrific staff

My family of four stayed here on our way home from a road trip to New England. The location is conveniently off the highway and close to the Linden train station (for trips into NYC). You can walk to the shopping center nearby where you can buy anything you forgot to pack. There are plenty of restaurants in the area (especially in Rahway, about a 10-minute drive away), though none are "on-site" as the website indicates.

The rooms were generally clean and well-appointed, but everything about the hotel seemed a bit broken. To be fair, it's undergoing some renovations (e.g., the pool was closed for maintenance). However, one of our bathtubs had a dark stain. (I think it was rust, but at first I thought it was something worse.) The electronic door lock for one of the rooms was broken, so anyone could've just sauntered in. One of the toilets would often get stuck such that it would be constantly flushing.

The hotel offers free breakfast, but you need to arrive early (like 8am). We were down at 9, and all the hot food items (eggs, potatoes, sausages) were gone. The kitchen staff said they had run out and could not bring out more. The yogurts were nearly all gone as well along with the bread and bagels. (Reading the reviews, this appears to be a common problem at this hotel.)

The staff were friendly enough, but they couldn't really fix much of what was wrong with the hotel.

Room tip: Come down to breakfast at 8am if you want the full range of food items.
