Excellent location, clean rooms, close to airport

Pros:
1) The sweetest , friendlies, most helpful, and “just a little Ray of Sunshine” night clerk (Pamela).
I observed her handling/juggling several unhappy customers at once (through no fault of hers) and she displayed respect , a positive attitude, and advanced problem-solving skills, till everyone was content.
2)Great location! Walking distance to many restaurants, stores, and a movie theatre.
3) Rooms are clean, stylish, and comfortable.
4) Fresh-baked cookies every afternoon. 5) “Spin-the-Wheel “ and get a prize promotion
5) Grilling area on property
6) Above average exercise facilities

CONS:
1) Massive remodeling project underway, causing several issues (lack of hot water one night, pool not open, workmen/clutte)
2) Breakfast wasn’t very good. Super-thin “Hampton Inn“ bacon, Cheese omelettes and fruit were ok.
3) Housekeeping not available every day, but did clean well when they were scheduled/requested

Hello, we are so happy you had a nice stay! Yes, our location is excellent, and our rooms are clean, new and beautiful. Thank you for the lovely message about Pamela at front desk she is a Ray of Sunshine all the guests feel the same way we have a wonderful staff. We apologize for the massive renovation underway but when it is done all our guests will love it. When you stay with us again, please request one day in advance when you would like your room cleaned. I was so happy to find this hotel. We had booked a hotel closer to cruise port and had to find a hote last minute due to the nature of the Howard Johnson’s safety/cleanliness. This hote has some restaurants in walking distance and the hotel is almost done renovations and the room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The night shift front desk staff ladies were so sweet after all we had been through this hotel a bad situation good.

I’ve stayed at this hotel many times over the years and always enjoyed it. This time? Not so much. The hotel is undergoing renovations and if I’d known that I wouldn’t have stayed there. Here are some things that went on which may or may not be related to the construction.

When I got to my room I tried to connect to the Wi-Fi. I kept entering my last name and room number but no luck. I finally went to call the front desk but could not get the phone in the room to work. I had to call the hotel on my cell phone and wait on hold for a while. The woman at the desk gave me an alternate password and after several tries it finally worked. She said they would send someone to fix the phone. When the man showed up he fiddled with it and discovered that it only worked on speaker phone. Okay. Whatever.

I went downstairs to the fitness center to work out. I tried to wipe down the machine but there were no wipes in the container. I started my work out. After a while I took a break to have a drink. I went over to the water but there were no cups. I had to drink out of my hands.

In the morning while I was having breakfast smoke began pouring out of the toaster. Later the fire trucks came but somehow the smoke alarms didn’t go off. Odd. I left the breakfast to prevent smoke inhalation and went into the bathroom on the main floor. Afterwards I tried to wash my hands but the bathroom had no soap. The entire first floor sitting area is gone so there’s nowhere to sit anyway so I just gave up and left. I couldn’t even sit by the pool because it has no water and no chairs.

Reception staff was so rude, she did not even give milk for my toddler at night. Breakfast was okay. They don’t clean rooms until the 4th day of your stay, so if you are staying beyond a day, you get clean room, towels, trash etc on the fourth day.

We reserved two rooms — and had proof of such. Drove 12 hours, checked in, and were told there was only one room. The second room reservation “never went through” on their end. They did absolutely nothing to try to make the situation right — just said oops, all booked — and were extremely rude about it even though they were at fault. Then they continually demanded to know whether we wanted to keep the single room before we could even check availability at nearby hotels. We had to get rooms at a more expensive, less convenient hotel. Ridiculously bad customer service. Beware.

All eight pillows were covered in yellow stains from previous guests, two had blood stains and 3 pillows were so old they were balled up. The vents are covered in dust, bathroom light did not work, shower had black filth in the group. The General Manager is a coward and will not talk to me in person it return 2 calls after I left the hotel. The one pillow was still damp from the previous guests. I asked housekeeping why they would allow these pillows to stay. She said they hotel does not have any new pillows and they are told to change the pillow case. You are at risk of catching Covid or any other viru

Good Morning,

This is Aaron McDuffy the General. While we respect all of our guest this person has become an issue. She and her family are trolls and bullies. Yes, we had an issue with pillows where the guest found some stained ones in her room, however my HK Executive charge all of her pillows for brand new pillows. This person has been apologized to and refunded her money and her points and also given bonus point. As for calling me a coward. I have called the guest a number of times and no answer. We're and older hotel going through a complete renovation.
