Note this review is specific to the Longhorn in Howell Twp., NJ.
I'd been to Longhorns before and been pleased. This visit, less so. Boyfriend assured me that he had made a reservation for ourselves and our friend visiting from out of town but upon arrival the hostess (very pleasant!) advised us that they do not have actual reservations but it acts as a "call ahead" which shortens the wait time, but we were still given a buzzer and had a good 15 minute wait in a crowded waiting area. It may be boyfriend's fault for not getting specifics so I'll give them a pass on this, but I wasn't pleased.
Primary complaint for this visit was that I ordered a filet, having seen a prominent photo of one on their menu and anticipated a nice THICK juicy filet mignon. Imagine my shock when I was handed a plate with a 1/2" thick piece of meat. At first I thought perhaps they'd given me the wrong cut, but the waitress assured me it was a filet. I didn't ask for the manager and said it was okay (didn't want a fuss) however the manager came over anyway and when I explained I'd never in my life seen such a slender filet he said something about choosing the cut of meat to enable it to be cooked in timing with the other orders at the table. Sorry dude - I ain't buyin' it. OTHER steakhouses have NO problem cooking multiple cuts of meat for the same table and having them all come out at the same time - and since this is Longhorn STEAKHOUSE, and not the local diner, I'd expect the same. My theory: they had two sizes, a 6 oz. and 8 oz. and as a woman I chose the 6 oz. however the footprint of the meat I was served looked like it might have been cut from the 8 oz size and to make it 6 oz they sliced it in half horizontally, resulting in a steak that looked as if someone fat had sat on it. Tasted okay, was overall tender though not as tender and juicy as would in theory have been if it had been as thick as I expect a filet to be or was shown in photo on the menu. Boyfriend had a steak he said was very fatty and much taken home for the dog; friend had burger he seemed to like.
Guys - if this is a one time error you are forgiven; if this is your business practices you need to change it and serve a filet that looks like what people see on your menu. Either way, I doubt I'd return to this particular location.
