This is *not* a 4.5 hotel. My husband and I have stayed in the Homewood Suites for years, since the hotel was Staybridge Suites. We like to have our own cooking facilities and the space a one-bedroom suite provides.
This hotel used to be extremely nice, and the complimentary breakfast used to be better than edible. People were actually in the kitchen cooking, not putting out packaged omelets, packaged "home fries," etc. There was freshly cut fruit, not just green bananas and tasteless apples. There were PLATES and stainless flatware, not styrofoam plates and individually wrapped throw-away utensils. And plastic glasses and coffee cups. Just do the math—how many people eat in how many Homewood Suites all over the country every day. Multiply that number by 365 and you will understand that every year millions of styrofoam plates and plastic utensils are going into our landfilland poisoning our environment.
Please do not talk to me about Covid restrictions. If you listen to the automated speech that answers the phone, it will tell you they are following protocol, and have been for the past year. People do not get Covid from eating on real plates with real knives and forks. Yes, Covid is still around, but it's been more than three years since it was really dangerous. The great majority of people are vaccinated. There are plenty of hotels in the country and abroad that are serving with reusable plates and flatware.
Yes, I am incensed, and can't really understand why anyone would give Homewood a 4.5 rating. A Residence Inn will be opening soon just down the road. I hope that Marriott has the good sense to upgrade everything, not just the rooms.
All that said, I would like to give a shout-out to the staff at the Homewood, in particular Jayla, who was on the front desk during the day for a couple of days while I was there. Jayla was extremely helpful, courteous, and professional. In general, I have no complaints about the staff—I hope they are well-paid.
Just to clarify: I might give Homewood Suites Eatontown a slightly better review if they would stop with the throw-aways. This is our planet you're garbaging up!
