I booked a night at this hotel for a birthday celebration, and stupidly selected the wrong date. That's my bad! I was still going to go, but I called the hotel and was relieved to hear that they would cancel and refund me -- this was because they were already sold out of the date I needed. I then booked a different hotel in the area and stayed there -- the Comfort Inn was excellent and a great alternative!
Lo and behold, Holiday Inn Clark still charged me for the night. I tried calling them multiple times (4 times!) to see what was up, and each time I got the same response: they needed to check with their back office manager and would call me back. Ok, great. Except they never called -- I suspect this is so that some people will forget about following up (Horrible customer service #1). I continued to call back however, and the manager got chippy with me and said I never cancelled, and they would be taking my money (Horrible customer service #2). He literally suggested to me to dispute the charge on my credit card. Basically, he said that they were sold out that night, and I was a no show, despite my calling ahead to cancel.
Now, I rarely have had poor experiences with customer service on any company, so this is a first lol. I've also never written a 1-star review before. But this is too much. I've never had a hotel eat my money due to an error on their end before.
The moral of this story is that you're better off spending your hard earned money elsewhere. Holiday Inn Clark has slimy business practices that simply want your money and offer awful customer service. I will NEVER spend another night at Holiday Inn Clark or any other Holiday Inn again. Sticking with the major chains like Hyatt and Marriot, where I have never been treated so poorly.
