Goodbye Orleans!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Jul 2024
We have been frequenting this hotel for nearly 20 years. Now I think this is the last visit. We have constantly complained about the terrible lighting in the rooms, especially the bathroom. We heard the rooms had been upgraded so thought we would go back again. Well...they didn't do anything about the lighting! Brutal. Think this was our last stay!!
Also...the Copper Whisk, their coffee shop was closed for dinner on Sunday. What hotel does that???

I’ve stayed many times in Las Vegas. It’s one of those places that has so much to do and lots of adventures to be had. I came for a work conference held in the hotel and stayed here as the event was here. I don’t think I will ever come back after staying here my first time. Sadly, after a 12 hour long drive I came to a room that was disgustingly dirty including pubic hair on the floor and in/on towels, little black chips everywhere and a very dirty menu with what looks like soot. I am not one to complain or write reviews but thought after this experience I should warn people. The supervisor remedied my issue by ordering my room be “express cleaned” (this apparently only means they swap out the towels). They only clean the rooms every 3 days is what I was told. Definitely read the fine print as well, as they charge $45 a night in resort fees regardless of your using the “amenities.” Overall a very disappointing experience and no overall remedy given by multiple supervisors.

The good...

This property is a budget property and is located off the south end of the strip by a couple of miles so it seems to be a bit cheaper than what you would find on the strip. This property seemed less busy than other locations we visited on the strip. I had no problems finding an open spot at the tables in the casino, even during evening hours. Also, they had a double-deck blackjack table with favorable conditions / rules (3:2 payout on blackjack, no continuous shuffler, etc.) that always seemed to have an open spot, something that did not exist at places on the strip. The minimum at this table was always $15 but that was fine with me (the only $10 blackjack table I found close to the strip was at Ellis Island that had similar conditions but was a six-deck game).

The bad...

Since this property is located a couple miles away from the south end of the strip, be prepared to have a rental car or Uber anywhere in order to get just about anywhere you want to go. I'm not sure if this is the common experience but housekeeping only emptied our trash and replaced our towels once and never re-made the bed during our four-night stay.

The "meh"...

The decor in the rooms seemed a bit dated but the room was clean. If you are looking for fast WiFi, be prepared to be disappointed. I measured the speed at 5Mbps so it felt like things *crawled* quite a bit.

We have stayed at the Orleans for years. It’s off the strip, a big hotel/casino and attached entertainment venue. It’s known as a more locals place. The odds of winning here are much better than on the strip. I almost always come away a winner. I first discovered this on a business convention in the early 1980’s. They have several restaurants to offer including our usuals of a steakhouse and a TGIF’s. The Chocolate shop is a favorite.
The rooms are large and clean. Being disabled the roll-in shower is great. Comfortable chair was appreciated as was handicapped room being near the center by elevators ( and not at the long end of a hallway. Some regular types of rooms have a sofa sitting area.

Suggestions could be: A coffee maker in the room, this trip our bed was very soft- not like previous visits.

Room tip: Huge parking available. If you want covered parking use the valet service. Book through their website for better deals.

Housekeeping stole from my room when I was out. Housekeeping supervisors and hotel managers don’t care and walk away from you when telling them about issue. I told the manager about the issue and she just walked away from me and didn’t care and didn’t want to help. I have never had items stolen from me before at a hotel.

Rooms were immaculate and air conditioning was perfect. Restaurants were really good—especially the Oyster House. Only concern was checking in and out. Charge for early check in (half hour was $28). Check out was done by rude agent. That was only concern. But will come back again. BTW, if you want a refrigerator in your room, it’s n extra $30 (not per day, but for the week). We didn’t do it.
