We had a really delightful night at Lochmara with our family of five. The three kids fitted into the bunks in the bedroom, while we slept with the great water view. The cafe was decent - although some healthier kids food options would be great. Watertaxi and reception service was excellent. There was lots to do and we especially loved the glowworms and the touch tank. I'm giving this a four only because the units are starting to look a little dated. However, I would still recommend this to all.

Leaving Picton a short panorama boat trip brought us to Lochmara and the beautiful bird sounds.
Free kayaks, paddleboards, hammocks. Very relaxing way to go. We went on a guided tour to see the animals being fed. Great for children. Eels, kuni kuni pigs (so tame) fed by hand beautifully coloured Kakariki. Experience the new “Marine Research and Education Centre.” Great touch tank, best we have seen. Enjoyed our day visit. Good friendly cafe with tasty food.

overnight stay. Only downside people with mobility issues will find it challenging with many steps and steepness at time.

I am a solo traveler and stayed in a twin room for five nights. The room was immaculate and thoroughly serviced daily. Housekeeping promptly accommodated my request for a different blend of tea in the room and made sure I knew how to use the more than adequate heating as I am from a tropical environment.

The grounds are well kept and there are plenty of interesting things to do, from the incredible underwater reef observatory to feeding the various animals. Also in abundance are educational placards featuring flora and fauna.

Dining is by way of the onsite restaurant / cafe and good food is available throughout the day. For the first time in what seems like eons, I actually enjoyed a steak cooked exactly to my liking!

The water taxi to and from the lodge was fast and comfortable and the staff could not have been more helpful.

Thanks to everyone at unique Lochmara. I will be back, soon!

Lochmara lodge is a great family holiday destination. It had lots of wildlife and activities. The food, especially breakfast was delicious. The hammocks were a highlight and great for star watching. The rooms were slightly small and but overall had a nice touch to them. Girls were annoyed that the rope swing was out of use. Recommend for families.

Our 7 year old grandson wanted to go on a boat for his birthday. We took the Interislander to Picton, then a short trip to Lochmara Lodge.

Paradise on earth. The weather wasn't great, so can only imagine how stunning it would be on a sunny day.

Fabulous service and food. Loved our meals.

Grandson explored every inch, and loved the animals. Glow worms were very cool.

Next time we will come alone, and stay longer. Came home feeling like we'd had a really nice break away.
