Average hotel, poor service.

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Jul 2024via mobile
Pretty average hotel and room with a somewhat disinterested staff. Not quite up to the standard that one would expect from a Marriott / Fairfield Hotel. We arrived at around 5:15 after a long day of driving and were told by the desk clerk that our room was “dirty”, which I quickly translated to mean not ready, notwithstanding the reservation sheet said check in was 4:00. During the brief attempt to check in, she interrupted the process and took two very long phone calls that didn’t seem related to anything urgent. She said she’d call me when it was ready. When we came back a while later, the hotel manager was there and when I complained that the room wasn’t ready on time, she pushed back quite aggressive that she had been very busy and acted like it was unreasonable for me to expect the room to be ready when I showed up at 5:15. I could almost see that a room wasn’t ready, but it should have been ready by 5:15. What surprised me was the complete lack of concern on the part of the desk clerk or manager. I am more used to Marriott personnel apologizing quickly and offering points or other accommodations. Not here. It was apparently my fault for expecting polite service and our room to be ready at 4:00 check in. I wouldn’t stay here again. Fortunately, I stay at Marriott quite often and know this one is a “one off”, but it doesn’t represent the Marriott brand well.

The hotel was nice, clean, comfortable, and the gentleman who checked us in was friendly but don't expect a good breakfast on a Sunday morning, or maybe other days. There was no bread available on our stay, when we asked for some we were told “We ran out of bread yesterday”. There were also other very limited and missing breakfast items when we arrived in the first half hour of the breakfast slot. Very sad when such little concern for the hotel guests is shown by not replenishing their supplies.

Hi Trek1771416, Thank you for your feedback. Your experience of our breakfast not being properly stocked is way below our standards. I apologize for this inconvenience. I have made immediate changes and have settled some accountability issues to prevent this from happening again. I hope you are able to give us a chance to earn your business again.

Checked in on Dec 05, out on the 6th.
Upon opening the rooms fridge, found old food and stink. Front desk Connor immediately offered to come up n clean it, which he did.
Later in the evening decided to use the shower HARD NO! was filthy, soap scum along with "whatever" in the corners.
Then stayed tk look more closely at the room, noticed it didn't appear to have bee vacuumed, crumbs/pieces of garbage in front of fridge and TV area.
Contacted front desk moved to another room.
Hotel management contacted me today, stated I would be given 1000 pts for the inconvenience??? She stated is slmost enough for 1/2 a night?? Head scratcher, considering it takes over 7k pts to stay at her hotel.
She stated she has "gone above and beyond" offering me pts??
Yah, won't be staying here again, too many other hotels that will provide custoner service when an issue arises.

This Fairfield was the most expensive Marriott hotel we stayed at in our whole half continent driving trip to the west coast. It was well situated, just off the highway. It is the older design. I was concerned at checkin as the front desk clerk was explaining to another guest that they were”way overbooked and so could not offer them an upgrade”. “Way-overbooked” ???

The room was typical and fine, although the mattresses felt like they were at the end of their lifecycle. Breakfast in the morning was a disaster. While the staff were happily chatting. The buffet had no meat dish, no eating utensils other than a knife, no bread, no sugar for the oatmeal, orange juice that tasted off, and no omelettes’ left. When I got the attention of the breakfast room attendant, she confirmed there was no bread until later in the week, that she noticed the b. sugar was out earlier in the week and that she was going to prepare more sausage Pattie’s but forgot.

Better management required here, big time!

Room tip: Skip if other options available.

Rooms fairly quiet despite being between two busy roads. The breakfast was pretty good. There were a few restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Could have used a blanket on the bed. Fairly clean. Staff friendly and helpful.

Positives: Fast check – in, Connor was courteous, plenty of parking, clean lobby, elevator, and room. When lacking amenities inventory, they brought to me immediately. Honored Marriott membership with a welcome gift in a bag.

Negatives:
• Hot water not hot enough. Connor said it’s Montana state law, but I stayed in Delta by Marriott down the same street in Helena, in mid-November 2021, and the hot shower was really hot. He then changed his explanation saying he would ask the maintenance look at it. The hot water was hot when I first checked but for some reason got cooler. Connor who is also the manager, offered to provide two complimentary frozen items from the minimarket next to the lobby.
I rather the hot water is hot, not warm than getting the frozen foods, especially the selections aren't something I could use.
• Very loud central air – even louder in the morning, was woken up at 5:30am.

Additional Info:
* The payment to this hotel did not go through when handled by Connor, I caught it later. Spoke with Kim, another staff, weeks later to resolve it and to ensure they are paid. For this hotel, you may want to check the invoice and payment receipt more carefully to ensure all charges are right and done right. Kim's manager, Kaela was also helpful in resolving it.

This hotel would have earned a 4.0 if they had provided hot shower, not cold; and that Connor would provide a more realistic explanation instead of providing inconsistent answers or pulling in state law as an excuse.
It should have earned a 5 out of 5 if the central air isn't so loud. This hotel's central air is a lot louder and noisier than most other hotels, which impacts sleeping quality.
