My son and I just recently stayed at the Budget Inn Express. The location is AMAZING. the adorable downtown core is one block away. We were lucky enough to arrive and there was a downtown black party (with live music) happening. If you are looking for a motel that is shiny and new, this is not the place for you. It's an older building (and it shows) but we felt that the price and location more than made up for it. The important thing, for me, was whether or not the room was clean, and it was. There is a fridge, and if I remember correctly, a microwave. The person who was at the front desk was friendly and helpful. They made us feel welcome and safe. The only reason I gave it a 4 stars was because of the signs of aging. There is a slight odor (I'm sensitive to smell) and some things around the room could be easily fixed to bring it up, in appearance, slightly. But honestly, if you are looking for a place that puts you in the heart of Helena and you are on a budget, this is the place for you.

Owner Jenny provided a very friendly reception upon arrival and she allowed my motorcycle to be parked under the lobby's portico. This motel is historic and has character. It is close to old town Helena, the Cathedral and Reeder's Alley. My upstairs room had nice furniture including a queen bed, large dresser, desk and chair, a well-worn comfy chair, fridge with freezer shelf, microwave and a spacious bath. The TV didn't work, but Jenny came quickly to fix it. She even provided me with a thermos full of fresh coffee, since I planned on leaving before 7 am next morning, before the coffee is ready in the lobby.

This place looks so funky and is so convenient for Downtown, I expected it to be expensive. I was delighted to find out that it was one of the cheapest motels in Helena.

It's old school and even has keys to the rooms! The front desk has a delightful display of local artefacts.

Best bit is, the motel is walking distance from bars and restaurants and what night life Helena has to offer.
