Flaxmill is a fabulous hidden gem upon arrival you are greeted by clean, neat and a comfortable unit. It's location couldn't be better, situated close to the ferry and a wonderful bay for swimming and sea activities, as well as being a great base to other Coromandel attractions, eg Cathedral Cove. If you are intersted in the arts, there's plenty on offer. Driving Creek Railway in Coromandel itself is fantastic. Fabulous restuarants/cafe's all nearby. What more could you ask for! A great place to unwind and relax.

Room tip: Any room would be fabulous.

Great, quiet little motel with gorgeous views across the bay. Excellent service replacing a broken hot plate the next day.
Only negatives were the small, thin towels that we had for the first few days, an outside light on the stairs that comes in to the bedroom at night, and a low-water-pressure shower, but overall a lovely, clean and quiet place to stay for a few days. We would come again.
Many thanks!

Hi there Karen, We really appreciate your constructive review! We have just changed linen supplier, so your comments regarding the thin towels will be taken up with the company we hire them from. The outdoor light is an ongoing problem we are still trying to resolve as it seems the timer is not switching the light off at 10pm as it should. Also happy to report we have fixed the shower pressure (which we only became aware of when we saw the reviews on Trip Adviser). We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and we do hope to see you back again soon.

Really nice place, clean and brights with great facilities. The location is very convenient for visiting Cathedral Cove and the other highlights of Coromandel Peninsula. There are lovely views from the balcony and you can get a good rate if you stop 3 nights or more :-)

This is a very special spot and we will definitely stay again. The unit is clean tidy modern and has everything you need. Its location is the best, short walk down to the ferry to get to Whitianga (on a 30 second boat ride) short stroll down the hill to a great beach.
Im booking for longer next year and bringing all my friends to book the other units. Magic!!
Alana

Room tip: Room 3 was great for 4 people (family) if its a romantic night room 4 is best.

We love this area with the small motel being quiet, close to a great beach and an easy walk to the Whitianga ferry. We are now an elderly couple but first enjoyed Flaxmill Bay in the 1970s with a young family.

On this occasion we had quite a problem with an electricity outage in our unit (No. 2) just after we arrived, probably thanks to a lightning strike. We phoned the owner who contacted the motel's maintenance man. He phoned me, got me to check that all appeared well with the motel's power board, then arranged for an electrician to call. The electrician found that there was an area-wide line fault that left only one phase operating of the three-phase supply. The other three units were empty and unit 1 next to ours still had power, so the owner kindly let us move into that unit where we had lights, could cook our dinner and watch TV. We moved back to our original unit the next day after its power was restored.

So, although we had a problem that was not the motel's fault, phone calls to the off-site owner resolved the issue by graciously letting us occupy two units.

As others have noted, the motel is very affordable, clean, basic, with Freeview TV channels only and no phone or WiFi. A washing machine in each unit with powder supplied would be a bonus to families. Bathroom and kitchen facilities have been modernised, though the showerbox was 'retro' with laminate walls, a stainless tray and separate taps. Note also without on-site service, some small things like tea/coffee sachets and milk are not replaced - at least over the three days we stayed. But that didn't worry us and we would certainly come back.

Hi there. Again a huge thank you for your understanding with the power situation. We later heard the outage was caused by a lightening strike which in turn left a number of regions with intermittent power outages. We are glad we could work with you to ensure you still had a fantastic break. Hope to see you back again
