This gem of railroad history was a total surprise to find. The owners are knowledgeable, so easy to talk to and clearly gifted at running the hotel. The railroad theme is ongoing as people add to the collections with tools, old stock certificates, photos, conductor uniforms, even train placemats at the breakfast area. The beautiful pool is filled by an old railroad watering arm, which children love. There's a young vineyard and wine tasting available as well as bicycles for guests to use. There's a Mexican restaurant right next door. The hotel and rooms are impeccably clean with new bedding and generous towels. Thanks to our hosts we discovered that Walt Disney's childhood home of Marceline, MO is only about 40 minutes away.
We spent an easy 3-4 hours there reliving our childhoods, learning so much about his creative, hard-working family, Walt's escapades as a child and young man and enjoyed walking Main Street in Marceline, which is the basis for Disneyland's Main Street USA. We would come back to this hotel again, sooner than later if it weren't 6 hours from home!More
