“Rochester MN quaint, comfortable”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

Rochester is a 'company town' based on the Mayo Healthcare clinic(s) and is set up that way, understandably. Thankfully. Because it is, access is easy for walking, mobility impaired, and it smoke free in a 4 block radius.
Its kept clean, local culture is friendly, open, and comfortable.
Do not mistake it for a small city - its more of a large town. In that perspective, its lovely to visit. Shuttles go to major locations such as the Mall of America, the local malls, and airports.
Visitor books are available just about everywhere which are chock full of information and ideas. Shopping is lean, but sufficient. For architect nuts, historic buildings abound. the Plummer building is not to be missed.
The heart of the city is connected with skywalks and underground passages that they call 'subways'.

“Life in Rochester”
Reviewed 12 March 2003

I have lived in Rochester for about four years, but I grew up about 15 miles away from here, so I know this city quite well. I really like the size and the convenience in this city. It is growing very rapidly though (probably having something to do with its #1 ratings over the years as best place to live in the US). The population of Rochester is growing fast. There are probably around 100,000 people of all races, religions, and backgrounds in this city. If you are interested in a place to eat, this town has most of the usual places, but also a few unique ones. I am partial to Mr. Pizza if you are looking simple dining experience. It is located on South Broadway (also known as Hwy. 63) and has excellent pizza and cheese bread. I highly recommend it. If you are looking for nightlife, well, Rochester is lacking in that a bit. If you want to dance, you basically have one option: Aquarius. It is located on 14, about two miles east of Broadway. It has a bar attached to it for a calmer atmosphere with pool tables, darts, etc. Also has excellent popcorn! Aquarius is known for its younger crowd typically. Some other bars that people like in the Rochester are The Moose (off of Hwy 52), Rookies (located in the Best Western Apache), Bon's (off Hwy 52), Kathy's (on Broadway), etc. As for hotels, if you don't want to deal with downtown traffic, I recommend Best Western Apache. It is nicely priced with clean rooms and is across the highway from Rochester's largest mall (Apache) with a newly remodeled Rookie's located within. Have a great stay in SE Minnesota!
