Sadly we didn't stay at TLWH. However we did stumble across it and enjoyed lunch in the gardens. The manager was wonderfully friendly and could be heard singing from the kitchen, which is immaculately clean! The lunch we had here was possible one of the best meals I had all holiday! We did visit the rooms just to be nosey and found them to be basic but very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here if I have the opportunity to re-visit to Sri Lanka.
We spent 2 weeks at LWH in Uppuveli, we being a family with a boy of 8 and girl of 6 years old. We were hoping to find somewhere friendly, fun and peaceful .... And we struck gold!
Thushara (manager, cook, guide, tour arranger, Kandian dancer, cricket coach and all round great guy) welcomed us to our simple clean comfortable rooms and we spent a while acclimatising in the hammocks strung around the palm grove drinking startlingly fresh coconut, mango and watermelon juice. Amazing food included their veg curries and fresh grilled fish, we often watched ingredients being bought the same day on tuk-tuk trips to the fish and veg markets with Thushara.
Wojciech (owner, chillout DJ, rock music addict and, yep, great guy too) has created a beautiful experience that is unpretentious, relaxing and warm-hearted. We enjoyed reading, playing cards while the kids played on the hammocks, petted the kitten, went on lizard safaris, played cricket, spotted monkeys, did palm leaf weaving, poked night time bbq fires ... all within the safety of the LWH gardens. We even picked up great SL cooking tips!
If you want a luxury 5 star hotel experience (yawn) then try somewhere else but if you want to feel really at home in Sri Lanka come to LWH. We loved every minute and feel we were greeted by staff but left with new friends.
P.S. Beach is perfect btw (with big fun waves but not too big for our young kids).
