“A favorite beach hang-out”

Holland State Park Beach

White sand that talks to your feet as you walk. A pier so that you can stroll out into beautiful Lake Michigan (or fish from). A wide beach that invites kids to cavort and staid adults to bask in sunshine. Really, what more could you want? Food? There's a concession stand...and restrooms. Sunsets? Stay on a mostly clear or partly clear evening for a real treat.
This is a state park, so you'll need to pay for admission, either daily or seasonal. If you are coming more than once, the season pass for your vehicle is your best bargain. It's good 92 of the 93 state parks (Fort Mackinac is not accessible by auto) and lets you skip the line to pay. It's a favorite among locals and people from the wider region.

Great beach fun for family. Get there early as the park can get full quickly. Take a walk on the pier... Watch boats going through the channel to Lake Michigan. Grills available, Volleyball nets for family fun.

I have been to Holland State Park Beach many times over the years. Last night (Fathers Day) my family and I went there for a dip in the water. It was around 95 degrees that day, so wading in the cold water was wonderfully refreshing.

The place was busier than I have ever seen it. All parking lots were almost full. But we found a nice spot and headed to the beach. Even though crowded, the beach is big enough that you do feel like you have your own space for chairs and a blanket near the water.

The sand and water were very clean. Not much trash laying around, except for a little bit in the changing rooms/concession stand area.

You can wade out into the water for 100 feet or so with little kids, so it is a kid-friendly beach. You do need to heed any warning signs for undertow situations when the surf is rough on windy days. There are no lifeguards, so be aware of where your kids are at all times.

There is a nice building with a concession stand and dressing rooms. The concession stand has hard and soft ice cream, somewhat reasonably priced. They also serve some fried foods like hot dogs, hamburgers and fries. There are also beach toys and other items for sale in the store. There are showers outside the building to wash off your feet.

We had a good couple hours to swim and watch the water, then left around sunset. Lots of new people had arrived to watch the sunset--an activity you see repeated at every park along Lake Michigan in West Michigan. I also need to mention that you can also view "Big Red," Hollands lighthouse on the pier. It is beautiful to watch after sunset too when the pier lights come on.

I know that the camping area is also popular, though I have not camped there.

There are at least 3 other ice cream places on the road leading to the park--so don't forget to stop and keep the tradition of getting an ice cream cone after a day at the beach!

We stopped in to walk the pier to the lighthouse and ended up having a picnic and walking the beach. Although very busy, it is an excellent beach and we will definitely be back.

Recently my wife and myself visited the Holland State Park for the first time. We frequent the Grand Haven beaches and I appreciated the amount of parking that was available. Now, we didn’t visit on a busy day, but it was nice to be able to park relatively close to the beach. The beach was kept clean and park rangers were workin on maintenance and upgrades, which is nice to see.
