Used to come here as children and dropped by to revisit for afternoon tea and scones. Lovely atmosphere with a warm fire and plenty of interesting reading about the area. The scones with Cumberland rum butter were fantastic as always and the staff were very helpful and friendly!

After a long walk in torrential rain we called at the Riverside bar which is next door to the Royal Oak, however left after the bar manager? was extremely rude; his interpersonal skills left a lot to be desired. Having an hour to wait for the next bus we called into the Royal Oak - what a difference in hospitality! Nula the owner welcomed us in and lit a fire for us to dry off, although we only had a drink will definitely call again when in the area.

Stayed for 2 nights as a solo traveller & made to feel very welcome by staff & other guests. The hotel caters mainly for people who like walking and is a warm comfortable place with a log fire in a cosy little lounge. Food excellent.

Borrowdale is one of my favourite places in the Lakes and the Royal Oak Hotel is in a prime location for exploring the area. This was a stop after a long day on the Coast to Coast walk and it was a relaxing stay. The room was pristine and well presented and the food that evening was delicious. The prices weren't that cheap but that is to be expected for the area, but overall I recommend this Hotel for anyone planning to visit Borrowdale.

Stayed here for four nights for some late Autumn walking. Location is perfect, surrounded by lots of great walking and only five miles from Keswick. We had a lovely room overlooking the river and were able to watch Red Squirrels feeding in the morning. Dinner is a well-cooked, four course meal with coffee and chocolates served in the Lounge afterwards. Very friendly atmosphere.

Room tip: Room 22 is very spacious.
