I find that if restaurants know how to treat and serve oysters, that says a lot, and the oysters are top-notch here. So are the hamburgers...but the fancier dishes are equally fine.

The Bistro is overpriced, just for starters, even though some of the food is quite delicious. Be warned that their menu is extremely small, with some oddities on it, like fried pickles. The wine servings are quite small--5 oz.--and less than at a comparably priced restaurant. I had salmon over some kind of crunchy little cake, and the mix of textures was odd. Risotto or pasta would have been better with softness of salmon. Husband's hamburger was under-done, pommes frittes not special, though coconut curry soup was out of this world. The food is eccentric--some love it, some of us think it could be better and less pricey. I would go to Alina's over this any day, or The Blue Heron.

Four of us had a lovely dinner at Bistro Les Gras. The setting and cuisine are appealing. (Tables are nicely spaced; the cuisine is good if fairly uninspired.) However, several details really detracted from our dining pleasure. Case in point: it's irritating to be charged for a plate of olives. (Were we also charged for bread? Can't recall...) Worse: the wine list: several parts of the list provided wines by region without distinguishing between reds and whites or--worse--between half and full bottles. We ordered what a Sauvignon blanc--but, after taking our order, our waitress returned to apologize for failing to mention that it was a demi-bouteille--included on a list that was mostly entire bottles... However, it shouldn't be the wait staff's responsibility to inform diners of this "detail!" Theproblem was compounded when I pointed it out to another waitress--who commented sourly: "this is the first time in ten years that anyone has complained about our wine list." Sorry: this is doubly inadmissible... In brief, there are too many fine restaurants in the Pioneer Valley to overlook these mistakes at Bistro Les Gras (think Blue Heron in Sunderland or Chez Albert in Amherst).

Love that the chef honors farm to table ingredients. The food is delicious, the menu varied, and the staff always friendly. Start your meal with the fried pickles. They are the best! The wine list is well selected and reasonably priced. We have celebrated many different occasions at Bistro Le Gras over the years. It's a local favorite for us!

We were so excited to have nabbed a reservation and from beginning to end, we were not disappointed! Even the reservation phone call was wonderful: the host assured us our 2/3 vegetarian party would find plenty to enjoy. He was so right: they are more than happy to accommodate with delicious offerings. From the service to the cocktails, delicious food and inviting space: top notch. Our waitress was such a delight: offering up great recommendations and being attentive but giving us space and time to enjoy ourselves. Truly top notch! The Kimchi fried rice is to die for and the fried pickles were perfect.
