I first visited Charlotte's long ago, after dark when it was a lowly ice cream stand. The lights flickered and buzzed and it reminded us of a Stephen King story in the making. Soon after, it emerged as Charlotte's. (We've followed Charlotte to other eateries in the past). What is it like? It's simply fun and fantastic. Like an outdoor diner - it's edgy, with an amazing menu and home style cooking. My recent visit found a crowd, but as I ordered just a lobster roll with slaw, it was out to me in no time! This is an award winning drive in (Downeast) and deserves a stop on your trip around the Park. Staff is friendly, with smiles on their faces all summer. With their long season, the Lobster Pound, complete with lots of outdoor seating, games for the kids, and vintage playlist is a Mount Desert classic. Take out to the Seawall and breathe in the view of forever!

This little eat out restaurant never disappoints. We called to order before leaving out hotel and the food was ready shortly after we arrived. Allow at least 20-30 minutes in high season. You can take it off property or eat at the outside picnic tables. It will be crowded as the food is exceptionally good. We go to Charlottes every time we visit the area.

So glad we stopped at Charlotte's. 2 adults shared Charlotte's Famous Footlong Lobster Roll and onion rings. It was a delicious lunch!

We accidentally found Charlotte’s on our way back from the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We almost didn’t stop, but I’m so glad we did! They offer to sauté the lobster on their lobster rolls, and I preferred that to cold meat. You have an option “, too, as to the amount of meat . . . 1/4 or 1/2 pound. A quarter is a gracious plenty! Aside from the options, the lobster meat is delicious and tender. Better, in my opinion, than the lobster roll we got at the “famous” Red’s Eats. A nice older gentleman wiped off our table, which was already pretty clean. Turns out it was Charlotte’s father! Then she talked to us for a long while telling us her desire, and accomplishment, of humanely preparing the lobsters for the pot (too long for this review, but worth Googling). Charlotte was a delight to talk to. Make it a point to stop here if you want a really good Maine lobster roll!
