We can’t say enough good things about this property! It was enough distance from the touristy bustle of August to give us peace and quiet but everything was an easy drive whenever we wanted to go out. It worked perfect for all ages (youngest was almost three) in a group of 8. The small touches throughout the house made it feel like home. You can’t go wrong here!
Our extended family was celebrating a 40th birthday get-together, and we were lucky enough to have celebrated at Blue Heron Tide.
Communication with the owners was always quick and responsive.
The owners provide a very thorough welcome notebook with helpful suggestions and an excellent orientation to the house. The house itself is lovely with beautiful views of the water. The layout of the house allows for togetherness (as well as privacy when you have had enough "together" time.) The kitchen is well stocked with staples, utensils, dishes and cookware. The basement is a fun place to hang out together with a ping pong table, tv, board games, dvds, puzzles and books. We had one rainy day that we spent trying every board game we could.
The location of Blue Heron Tide is perfect for a diverse group like our family. It is in a very quiet area. We barely saw another person the whole time we were there. But within a few minutes' drive, there are great places to eat and grocery shopping. About 30 minutes away is Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Blue Heron Tide facilitated each family member's perfect activity in one way or another. Our quiet reader loved sitting by the water and reading in the adirondack chairs. Our hikers and adventure lovers spent 2 days at acadia and spent a lot of time kayaking right out in front of the cottage. Our shopppers had a great time in Bar Harbor spending too much money. And we all loved connecting at night in the roomy living area overlooking the water.
My personal favorite things were sitting out on the screened in porch first thing in the morning and kayaking at high tide. (Scotty's kayaks delivers the kayaks right to the cottage.)
Thanks to Peter and Joy for a fabulous vacation.
Not sure where to start! As a multi-family of 7 (2 families; ours of 4 other of 3), this property was perfect! Clean, airy, with views from all over, like it says.
We had 2 teenage boys and a 12 year old/tween boy. The boys loved it! We had kayaks delivered and used them as much as the tide would allow (typically morning around 10a). The views are just awesome and the weather perfect all week! The house was located in a great quiet spot. Felt like the cove was ours. Pretty much anything you could want/need....Being from Maryland, we even found "Old Bay" spice and it came in handy when boys went fishing and caught a ton of Pollack and I had to cook them! Actually, found a Maine recipe for baking (BTW turned out awesome)! Hosts were very accommodating and answered our questions prior to our stay. Well stocked with all kinds of information and places to visit. We were busy, to say the least! Something for everyone and we all enjoyed our stay very much and, as first time Mainers, we would certainly return.
Thank you, Peter and Joy!
We stayed here for our family vacation with 5 adults and 4 boys, ages 2-8.
For the adults, it was very peaceful and quiet location with water front views! It takes about 30-40 mins drive to Bar Harbor and other attractions, which didn’t seem too far to drive through all the local scenic routes. It only takes 15 mins to get to the local down town area.
The house was pretty well equipped for a rental house. They have plenty of laundry detergents and dryer sheets for our active boys who loves to explore the great outdoors. That was very helpful and convenient.
We were able to see the low/high tides, from upstairs bedrooms’ windows and the living room windows, which was pretty amazing!
The BBQ grill outside was great and worked well with big family grilling, and so was the kitchen. We bought our own olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and they pretty much have most of other seasonings.
I wish we get to play some ping pong down in the basement but we were too busy exploring all the outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking and canoeing!
For the kids, they love the beach areas especially when it was low tide, exploring a lot further out. Also the basement is such a fun place for them to play hide and seek.
Over all, we had an amazing and unforgettable experience with Acadia National Park. And staying at the seaside cottage is like the icing on the cake to complete the whole package!
I have one suggestion if I may: master bedroom curtain. The sunrise was around 4:30 and we didn’t have much curtain to block out the bright light coming in. We had to tell ourselves that it’s bright out but it’s not even 5 yet, go back to sleep!
I will definitely recommend this house if you want to explore the true beauty of MDI and more!
This cottage was perfect for our family reunion! The open spacing and number of bedrooms and bathrooms served our group of nine very well. This is truly a well-stocked cottage. It is on the quiet side of the island, yet Acadia National Park is easily accessed from this location. Our family spent time hiking and biking different trails everyday. We also rented kayaks for use in Duck Cove. Great places to enjoy seafood or purchase groceries are nearby. Sunset views were enjoyed from the large windows of the living area.
